Supernorwich23 - The Facts

There has been some quite and some not so quiet discontent over the ban of Supernorwich23 from the forum and if this causes any embarrassment to him then I apologize but I am not taking the flack for what Dave & myself believe was the right course of action.

Most of this is brought on by either no information of incorrect information, so here are the facts and bare in mind he served 2 previous temporary bans, the most recent one just a week or so ago.

He was also on the verge of recieving further bans from other boards, who fans are sick of his posts.

A few days ago, on the Leicester board, there was an FA Cup thread that was along quite nicely until he decided to say the following

Have you ever posted on our boards? I mentioned that i am very confident that we will win this game, get over yourself you prick......... I call them as i see them...

I responded with

We are visiting the Leicester City board, please don't start throwing insults and abuse. We do not tolerate it on our board so why should we do it on others??

The response was sarcastic to say the least.

Hello Foxes fans, i hope we draw this game as i wouldn`t want any of you to have hurt feelings... Heck there should be no winning or losing or even keeping count of scores... We can all be winners then... Love Supernorwich

At that point I sent a personal message to request he refrains from the abuse and his overall bearing.

Instead of SN23 sending a message back to offer any kind of apology he creates a message on my profile - Get a grip man I have since deleted that comment but kind of wish I had kept it for proof for you people.

To me that demostrates a total lack of respect, it also indicates to me he is/was not willing to accept any responsibility for his actions.

Following a discussion with Dave (It was a joint decision) it was agreed he should serve a ban, and on the back of the 2 previous bans it was decided he clearly took no notice and wanted to continue in a manner that is frankly not acceptable to us, a permanent ban was appropriate.

After a few other messages via Syd the super moderator where he tried to portray his innocence, this morning following the explanation to him for the ban I get the following...
You are clearly Bipolar Neil and i will not blame you, rather your illness.

Please note - the only remote kind of apology he has made was not directly to myself, he told Syd - if posted anything out of turn like calling another user a "prick" i am big enough to apologise. I was warned for that action and actually edited that comment out myself. Well he wasn't big enough to do so and still has not.
I would also add that he did edit the comment himself and then invited me to read back through the thread and try to find where he had used an inappropriate word. His actual words were - Read back through this thread and quote the offending materiel Thai... Sounds as if you have just got a little giddy with power.... Just close the thread.....

A clear attempt to try and make me look foolish on that thread, in his words - epic fail!

Now, it's up to you guys.
Did we take the correct course of action or not?
Do you still believe he deserves another chance? If you really believe he does then say so.

I am not here to take the crap I am currently getting regarding this and I am damned if I am going to take it in the future if you guys cannot accept our judgements to be fair and/or reasonable. If you guys would rather have insults thrown about just about every time we have visitors to our board or like to see our fans do it on other boards then tell me.

 

I'll just add this:- Thai and I discussed this matter at length before any action was taken! It was a joint decision to ban him, as he had proven by his actions that he was not going to change!

I guess what I'm really saying is that if you think Thai's decision was wrong, then you MUST include me in that!

We try to make our site a welcome haven for ALL NCFC fans, and also for visitors from other teams!

Just do what you think is right guys. You're the mods and in my opinion you do a top job.

 

wow I don't post for a couple of days and all hell breaks loose!

I think Dave and Thai do a good job of modding the place and we rarely get problems, it's a pretty chilled out atmosphere.

All this negative energy should surely be re-directed towards suffolk?

Why would it need a private message? The guy has been told that his behaviour is unacceptable and he can't or won't change. Its not like you're putting him out of work or anything drastic. You're just banning him from a site. I'm sure the world is still turning for him and I'm not going to comment about his behaviour either.

The reason I am happy to accept PM's regarding this is because I am aware that some will not want to be seen to support the action publicly and cause offence or further embarrassment, and to me that is reasonable enough. I think it has been bad enough having to post the gory details to demonstrate our action was fair under the circumstances but I feel my hand has been forced by a swelling support for SN23's and concerned voices about our moderation in this case.

I liked SN23 myself and his humour but sad to see he could not show self restraint or indeed respect when it was needed.
His world will keep turning for sure and our forum will not die as a consequence of his non participation either.

 

I think there are two issues here...

1) Is it acceptable to call someone a prick for expressing their opinion or to claim a mod has mental health issues cos he says you shouldn't be abusive? Of course not.

2) Was SN23 treated fairly? The prick comment came after the following exchange on Leicester's board...
SN23 I am very confident we will win this as we are on a fantastic run at the moment but it`s the cup and anything can happen. Are you confident that you can turn us over in our own back yard Leicester fans?
Leicester fan yeah, why not. not overly bothered- you likely to play a weakened team?
SN23 Apart from our young Keeper who was awesome yesterday , i would imagine that it would be a pretty strong first 11........ Good luck with promotion Leicester
Newbie Norwich fan I'd like to apologise for the apparent arrogance shown by some Canaries. Given Norwich's recent tumultuous history before our rise up the leagues, I would've hoped that our fans would be more humble and certainly more understanding about how irritating it is for some 'jumped up' premiership fans to come onto a forum board and virtually claim victory before a balls been kicked.

Like SN23 I enjoy banter with other fans. I don't know the background to his previous bans, but I do know that even the most tame WUM comments from Whole Lotta Holt or SN23 gets shot down (by members every bit as much as mods), while most of us can make identical comments and get ROFL smiley's in response. Sarcasm on another board's thread probably wasn't the best way to express his frustration, but I agree with him that if he can't say that he is confident ahead of a match without getting accused of arrogance then there really isn't much point in talking about a match during the build up.

He reacted like a twat when he was challenged about it, but people that feel they have been treated unfairly generally do that.

 

I think you do an admirable job - ofeten in the face of adversity. For example, we've had recent threads with QPR and Feeds Utd get out of hand, but normally one of you will issue a warning before closing such offending threads
This is often because a visiting fan takes exception to something a City fan has said or implied that things turn to a pointless, vitriolic slanging match
If the behaviour continues, the thread gets closed. If one of our own is/was responsible for such draconian measures, then they too need to be 'closed' down in the account department.
I never had personal grief with SN23, but as we all eventually get tarred with the same brush (don't we Huckerby-the-holy!) and 99.9% of us want to debate in a n adult manner, there's little chance of that if even one 'fan' continues to antagonise fans of other clubs for no good reason.

P.S. Just read Rubik's version of events unfolding on the Leicester thread, and in the light of that not everything I just put necessarily applies

 

Thai, you asked me about the Snakepit, on another thread. This matter is one of the reasons I preferrred it. Chat about City with fellow fanatics and some of their other interests is fine to me but upsetting or threatening people because they disagree with me is not. I used to be a full time Union Secretary and learnt from very early on that you mustn't make things personal or insulting. I never get involved with the slanging matches that go on from time to time although I did take issue with the Chelsea fans regarding Terry because racism is a totally different and far more important issue than football.
We are all different ages, backgrounds, talents and personalities but come together because of our devotion to our football club. It shouldn't go beyond that.

 

Pretty pathetic in my opinion, stop acting like children in a play ground. I think a life time ban for that is very harsh no matter what he did in the past. He got banned for a week or so about 3 or 4 weeks ago and that was being a bit of a drunk prick on GC but that happens. I read the thread when it happened and what SN did or said didn't really deserve a ban, the newbie Norwich fan was a wum and he reacted and the sarcastic post is comical. This a football forum! If your friends replied to you with a sarcy comment would you tell him to piss off and never speak to them again? No.
