SuperMac Urging Newcastle to sign Conner Wickham
apologies if this has already been posted

UNITED are limping over the finish line because they are totally lacking in quality forwards.
That means only one thing . Alan Pardew must sign – and sign well – this summer.
Bearing in mind Mike Ashley's professed attitude to transfer deals – young players who are value for money – I would urge United to conclude a deal with Ipswich for Connor Wickham.
He is only 18, he is a boy, but physically he looks and plays like a man. He is already in England’s under-21 side despite his tender years.
I think I know a bit about strikers and a bit about Newcastle – and this kid fits the bill perfectly.
I watched him at St James’ Park last season and he was terrific. He scored a stunning goal.
In lots of ways Wickham is a bit like myself.
I was young and had not played in the top flight when I signed for Newcastle, but I was bursting with confidence and I knew I was going to a soccer- mad city.
Wickham will be better off here than staying at Ipswich because they are going nowhere.
Better off here than at, say, Arsenal where he would not be guaranteed first-team football.
If United landed the kid I guarantee he would be worth in excess of £20m in three years. His transfer market value would shoot up, as Andy Carroll’s did – and that is what Ashley likes.
The lad holds the ball up well, has good feet, and wide vision. All the basics.
United’s display at Liverpool emphasised just how poorly off Newcastle are up front.
They never looked like getting a shot on goal, never mind scoring.

The Magpies have always been about ace strikers, but since Alan Shearer retired there has not been one.
Carroll would have done all right when it comes to scoring goals but he has gone.
And look at the others – Leon Best has six in the Premier League, Shola Ameobi five, Peter Lovenkrands five and Nile Ranger none.
Not one out-and-out striker will end the season in double figures and that is criminal for a club like Newcastle.
The man showing everyone up is Kevin Nolan, but he is a midfielder of course. His goals should be the icing on the cake, not the cake itself.
The trouble is Shola and his mates do not take chances.

I entitled one of my books Never Afraid To Miss. Perhaps they should get a copy out of the library!
I remember when I was playing at Newcastle. We used to have shooting practice against Willie McFaul, our goalkeeper.
When the forward did not get a shot off Willie used to shout “if you do not buy a ticket you will not win the lottery.” Well, the current lot don't buy a ticket!
It really has become quite silly and Pardew must privately be tearing his hair out.
He has to say the right things politically, but at home he must be ranting and raving.
If Newcastle are to do anything next season they need two strikers, both good enough to be automatic choices. For me, Wickham is one of them.

For me I haven't seen enough of Wickham to have an opinion on if we should or shouldnt sign him. However he did shine in the game we celebrated the Championship trophy.
If he was to sign from us he will be learning and involved with one of England's greatest ever strikers - Sweet Pete and surely that would only benefit Connor.

    Thoughts?

His point about Nolan being the icing on the cake, not the cake itself is brilliant!

As for Wickham, I think he's right. He WILL be very expensive in the future, but is he the answer to our goalscoring problems now? I think not...For hte price he would cost, it would mean sacrificing another potential target who would be better for the here and now!

Aye we would be a good stepping stone for him but he may not be what we need.
Pardew should go elsewhere first of all and have Wickham as 5th or 6th choice should other targets fail to be lured here.

Ivé only seen Wickham a couple of times and the lads has promise. Rummours are that some of the big clubs are looking at him, so if we want him we will have to act fast.
He's spot on about Nolan and also Shola and his mates not taking their chances.

He is indeed spot on about Nolan but although I don't disagree with his opinion on Shola he is always one of the very first to criticise him!

The problem I think Supermac has with our strikers is they dont shoot enough and sometimes try to walk the ball in. Supermac had a hell of a shot and scored some brilliant goals.

I hate it how we do this!!
Time and time again we have good opportunities to blast it in from the edge of the box and we pass instead

Supermac parked his car on my foot one day. I was about 13, and was one of a group of about 30 lads running after his car with a broken pencil and a bus ticket for him to sign. I ran ahead of the car to where he was parking, and he parked on my foot. I shouted to him what he'd done and instead of reversing, the rotton twat just turned the wheel. Still, I got his autograph.

I find it hard to believe that we would invest the £8m+ that ambitious clubs would pay for him.

I'm not sure Pardew is that frustrated - he is Ashley's lapdog and knows it.

Don't get me wrong Barnaby, I loved watching him.Scored the best goal I've ever seen against Leicester in 1973 I think it was. Unfortunately it wasn't televised. (BTW, do you watch Durham at rugby?)

I think a newer version may say 'I kicked Super Mac - kicked the ****er on his back'
at least I'm sure I've heard that at various away games <laugh>
