Still, and I know always will be my favourite all time player. Absolute legend and fantastic footballer, as well as, fantastic goalscorer.
Legend has it that he equalised for Palace v Watford, a former heroe. I've met Kev before, at Durham hospital when his Julie had the twins, he's a great guy, I love him to bits.
I went on record three years ago on the BBC 606 Forum saying, "Although his betters years are behind him, in relation to his age and fitness, I would still have him on our bench to come on for the last 20 mins, any day." Yes, I got shot down and I understand, to an extent why, however, he, without argument, would have been 100% better emergency striker that either; Saha or McFadden...right ? Anyhow, I salute you Super Kev !!!!!!!
He achieved Legend status 10 years ago. He has gone on since then to become one of the all time greatest players in British football imo and if he could have just one more bash at the EPL and one more appearance at the SOL (or whatever it is called by then Lol) then I for one will cheer just as hard for the little fella as I have done on every occasion he has returned here since he left. He is one of the English games greatest ambassadors and I'm so proud of his part in our history here.
Shame he never had the opportunity at one of the very very top teams. Deserved a hell of a lot more from the national team too. Their loss.
Not bad for a guy who went pro in his mid 20s, Imagine if he'd been nurtured as a teen at a pro club. Class act.
Just a fantastic player, a fantastic bloke and a proper nice guy pro. shame there aren't many more of them. should have had much more of a chance with England, but if the face don't fit etc, etc ........
Can anyone remember how much we sold him to Southampton for? Sure Watford had a 10% add on fee. I remember his last game for us, watching it down the bar. There's a bloke gets in there who's a canny lad but b&w as ****. "Well, that's Phillips' last game in a red & white shirt", he says. Then we sold him to Saints, lol. The man will always be a hero in my eyes, he's a great bloke & at the risk of sounding gayish, I love him.
what can you say a real footballing man saw him many times , feel lucky as he was one of the best . why he never really got a chance in the england team ill never know
