http://www.stokecityfc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10310~2425635,00.html JON WALTERS will head back to East Anglia this weekend . . . armed with a new contract as recognition for an excellent first year with Stoke City. The Republic of Ireland international was a battered and bruised hero of City's marvellous Europa League Play Off triumph over FC Thun yesterday, exactly twelve months to the day that he completed a £2.75 million move from Ipswich Town. After being handed a new deal with a 12-month extension, Walters is now looking to build upon the progress which he has made over the past year, starting with the Potters' Barclays Premier League fixture at newly-promoted Norwich City on Sunday. "Jon's rise to prominence is an inspiration to others," said Pulis. "He has had to battle his way back up from the lower leagues through hard work and dedication. "We took him on because we thought he could do a good job for us, but he has actually done fantastically well and he has now got his just rewards." He added: "I am sure there are other players out there who could follow his example and make an impact in the Premier League if they are given the chance. "We are delighted Jon has agreed this new deal and made sure that his long-term future lies with us because he has an important role to play here." Walters emerged as City's joint leading scorer in the 2010-11 season, scoring twelve times, two of which came in the FA Cup semi-final win at Wembley. "It was a fantastic first season here for me, far better than I could ever have imagined," said the 27-year-old striker. "I want to repay this Club for the faith they have shown in my ability and there are certainly some exciting times opportunities to do that." Walters finished the Europa League tie in the Thun Arena with a bandage around a head wound and a nasty stud mark down the side of his shin. But Pulis is confident that he will be fit to take his place in the Potters line-up when they face Norwich at Carrow Road on Sunday (1.30pm kick-off). "He has had five stitches on the side of his head and has a couple of stud marks on his shin, but I am sure he will be okay for the weekend," said City's manager.
