The weather forecast looks favourable- so will anyone be bothering to view this tonight?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-34352504

Shame this astronomical phenomena has been hijacked by some of the 'lunatic' doomsayer religious nuts - I may pop outside and have a look (if I'm not sleeping)

I just have to remember to avoid tonight any passing Earthbound comets / meteorites with my name on them <cool>

would have thought in your neck of the woods the light pollution would be quite minimal for viewing - I'll have to dig out my binoculars too, my son has a telescope but its too cumbersome

    - some more facts regarding the rare (ish) event-if you don't see it tonight, then you will have to wait until January 2019 for the next "normal" total lunar eclipse visible from the UK, and April 2033 for the next supermoon lunar eclipse...

You're right mate, there's very little light here so you see all kinds of meteorites etc.

I've just been down to the lake and the moon is so bright you can hardly look at it.

Is the eclipse at 1am tomorrow?

It's a choice between staying up or going to be early and setting the alarm.

Is the moon as it is currently what people call the super moon?

If that's the case I'm going to start telling people I'm Superman. Well underwhelmed.

I'll be up for the eclipse as I'll be speaking to the missus in Aus.

It's freaky isn't it ........ can you imagine how terrified people must have been before they actually knew what the moon and stars were?

It's funny that. Got the First Humans documentary on. Hoping it explores what their early philosophies could have been like but get a feeling it will be strictly science.

The correct term is perigee-syzygy and its 14% in diameter larger and 30% brighter at it's closest to Earth, interestingly the term super moon comes from Astrology not Astronomy

I think you and I disagree with each other over the definition of interestingly.

Isn't that just Sod's law? Pity mate. It really turned dark red from about 3.10.
