I know all of his hideous mistakes have been highlighted several times, but I just remember how much he still grates on me...

The weirdest one was £3.5m on Magic Bougherra in Janruary.

Why not buy someone who would have done a short term job to keep us up?!

In that same window, Montella joined Fulham, Stead went to Sheff Utd, David Dunn joined Blackburn, Simon Davies and Smerts joined Fulham, and maloney joined Villa. All for less than Magic.

I know Bougherra played a few times (his cameo away at Old Trafford, possibly his debut, was excelent) but he was clearly 'one for the future'

    Insane Management

I never worked out how he said we had no money and brought in thatcher for sod all, then blow all that cash on someone that he never played.

Nothing wrong with Bougherra, but if you had 3.5m to spend to keep us up, then 3.5m on a CB was a curious purchase.

As an alternative, it would have been nice to have got Danny Murphy back, he hardly played for Spurs, and Curbs had gone. He did an excellent job for Fulham when he joined them 6 months after this transfer window

Yeh that surprised me too, I remember it being breaking news on SSN and thinking why? Diawara was quality and I loved El Karkouri

Big maj was and is a classy defender. Just a shame he was blighted by injuries- he and diawara would have kept us up IMO.

Magic was an immense defender, I was gutted when he moved on. A bit disappointing that he's now playing in Qatar as he had (very realistic) ambitions to move from Rangers to the Premier League. Hate to be cynical but I think the money was the sole motivating factor for his move.

I wasn't questioning his undoubted ability - just the fact that he scarcely featured in the premier league run-in, and as such £3.5m could have been better spent on players who at least in the short term would have kept us up.

Kish don't worry I completely agree with you <ok> I was just making a point about Bougherra which I found a little odd and interesting.

I agree with Mary that if Magic could have stayed fit then we could have stayed up, Diawara was/is a big lump who can win balls in the air and Magic was very mobile and a ball playing CH so a good combo a bit like Morrison and Taylor are <ok>
