Nope, they are slightly smaller than us, and we are by no means massive or big

They spend like they are a big club, but with out the results or even a European spot to back it up.

Both Newcastle and blunderland are big in support (us slightly bigger) but that is as far as it goes.

If you look over recent history, we're much bigger and more renowned. I know it was a while ago, but those times we almost won the EPL and we were regularly in Europe significantly grew our exposure and fanbase across the globe. There are a lot of people all over the globe now who have toon shirts on their backs. It's the same with players as well. They recognise our history and see us as a 'big club' which is well known.

While all that was happening, Sunderland were dipping in and out of relegation and all sorts, so it really does make sense. Sunderland have only very recently started spending decent amounts of cash and trying to push for such high spots, so we'll see where that goes.

I really can't see how any Sunderland fan could see their club as bigger than ours, and I'm trying to be unbiased as possible here.

    Depends really,

since 1992 when the EPL started, probably not no
since 1880`s when it all started, we are right up there with honours (not as much as Man U/Liverpool etc but still got a few trophies), wouldnt use the term massive, big maybe.

    Same as Newcastle as well,

since 1992, bigger than us, yes, won nowt though.
since 1880`s, few trophies so yes big club (but maybe not massive)

Newcastle and Sunderland are both in the Top 10 of England's biggest clubs I'd say

Since the football league was established in the late 19th century we've established ourselves as a big club with great attendances (say what you like but 39,000+ is a great attendance considering the city's got no money) in relation to some others (Wigan, Portsmouth, Fulham, Southampton, Middlesbrough and countless others who've graced the premier league over recent years) and we were once known as the Bank of England club.

However attendances and achievements in Europe don't lie. Newcastle are far and away a bigger club in relation to Sunderland. I personally haven't spoken to a Sunderland fan who thinks we're bigger than you but if I do I'll tell him he's an idiot for you.

No we are not a massive club, i would say we are a big club because of the fan base, but not a massive club. Does this help?
