....... in every way I can think of. Yet I keep seeing comments about it being a shyte game & two shyte teams only settled by one moment of magic.

That's nonsense and nothing but sour grapes imo. The press see it completely different and have been very complimentary about the way we played especially after the last home game's horror show against Villa.

This wasn't just 'one moment of magic', it was a very good performance against a team desperately hoping to cling on for a 0-0 draw and set up accordingly. Sunderland have Rodwell, Brown, Alvarez, etc out with injuries and had Cattermole playing his first game after a ban so the endless whinghing about Newcastle being short of players doesn't draw much sympathy, try not loaning players to other clubs eh?

Sunderland had Wickham hit the post, had a great free kick just wide, had Defoe & Gomez through on goal, Fletcher in great positions, Newcastle just getting the ball over the bar from Jones's low cross, Larsson having a shot blocked close in, Krul saved one on the line, etc etc.

Even Newcastle's own paper has been more realistic than some of the bitter supporters,
"Jermain Defoe’s wondergoal on the stroke of half-time was decisive, but the scoreline did scant justice to Sunderland’s dominance."

to be fair I think if you don't know and understand the north east you probably wouldn't have seen it as a great game.
Lets face it most derbies are seldom great football matches..........it really is just about winning no matter how you do it.
Thierry henry was there, he got it and was converted........if he'd been watching it in his London penthouse he'd probably have switched it off after half an hour.

The one down side was the ref booked 5 of our players and only 2 of theirs, despite them committing far more fouls than us...Larsson is one of those bookings which will cost him a ban..Catts was booked yet again for next to nowt as well..
Apart from that it was an excellent day..

I didn't see him amongst the 5 bookings. I must have missed that.

Memo to me: Read the whole thread <doh>

Was a dominant performance but you need to be converting the chances, Defoe isn't gonna pop up with one of those every game unfortunately.

Two great opportunities to put players in and the service was piss poor, both times. That needs to change to turn draws into wins.

Agreed. Concerns remain. To assume otherwise on the basis of beating a crap mags team is daft.

Having said that, with the manager we've got now, I think he can take the positives buzzing around the squad into the next game.

But they have to start from the get-go against Palace! Do that and the whole stadium will be our 12th man!

While I acknowledge the fact that you were superior to us, can I just point out the fact that we were missing Aarons, Haidara, de Jong, Dummet, Taylor, Tiote, Cisse and Coloccini?

Mind you, the ones that turned up were appalling.

Dunno mate. He's had a two week injury that's lasted about five months. Bloody shame, he looks a really good prospect. He'll probably end up at your place or arsenal.

He'll go to Liverpool when Sterling Gump leaves them!

Looks tidy but if he's a crock-donkey I'd rather you kept him!

Giaccherini, Alvarez, Brown, Rodwell, Buckley and AJ who's wasn't fit to start. That's nearly all our creative players absent

    Injuries happen to every team.
