Jermaine Defoe (calf) is the main injury doubt for Poyet with fellow attacker Emanuele Giaccherini also suffering with illness. Will Buckley and Lee Cattermole could miss out with knee problems whilst Jack Rodwell struggles with a groin strain. Last of all, Anthony Reveillere is the final injury doubt with a hamstring injury. WBA Team News Youssouf Mulumbu, who picked up a hamstring injury at the Africa Cup of Nations, could also return but Victor Anichebe (groin) is definitely out. Stats & Facts Head to Head Sunderland have won only one of the last four times they have hosted West Brom (W1, D1, L2). That was in this fixture last season when a 2-0 won clinched a survival that had seemed all but impossible a few weeks earlier. West Brom have won four of the last six meetings between these teams, but neither of the last two. The teams last met on the opening day of the season, when they drew 2-2 at the Hawthorns. The Baggies have collected more wins against Sunderland than any other opponent in Premier League history (eight times). Sunderland Sunderland have won just one of their last eight league matches. The Black Cats have lost three of their last four matches at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland have scored an average of 0.88 goals a game in this season's Premier League - only Aston Villa have a lower figure. Sunderland have conceded a league-high five own goals in the Premier League this season. WBA West Brom haven't won any of their last seven away matches in the Premier League. The Baggies are looking for back-to-back league wins for only the second time this season. West Brom have scored an average of 0.67 goals away from home in this season's top flight. Only Aston Villa have a lower figure. Stephane Sessegnon has scored in three of his last four Premier League starts in this fixture - on two occasions for Sunderland and once as a West Brom player. Key Players please log in to view this image Sunderland: John O’Shea John O’Shea has proved to be a shrewd signing for Sunderland after the Irishman’s long stay at Manchester United. The experienced 33 year old has often been Sunderland’s best player and has been key to keeping them in the Premier League since his move to the North East. So far this season it’s been much the same despite the Premier League winner’s own goal in the FA Cup tie with Bradford City. O’Shea has won 43/69 of his headed duels which shows how powerful he can still be in the air despite his age. The Ireland capped centre-back has also won 27/47 of his attempted tackles which represents a respectable 57%. Somewhat amazingly, O’Shea has completed 8/8 of his attempted take-ons which puts the pacey dribblers in the league to shame (not really). Defensively, O’Shea has completed a mammoth 40 interceptions at 1.8 per 90 minutes played. O’Shea will certainly have to be at his defensive best to restore some of the feel good factor in Wearside. WBA:Stephane Sessegnon Sessegnon hasn’t quite had the season many expected of him but the former PSG attacker is still one of West Brom’s better players and he’s a danger to any Premier League side on his day. In this campaign, Sessegnon has struggled for goals with just the one to his name so far. However, the Beninese playmaker has created 30 chances with three registered assists – which isn’t too bad in a West Brom side that struggled pre-Tony Pulis. Sessegnon has completed 47% of his attempted take-ons this season which represents a decent return that could also be improved upon Classic Match Previous League Meetings please log in to view this image Form please log in to view this image This Season's Reverse please log in to view this image Last Corresponding Fixture please log in to view this image Betting http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/sunderland-v-west-brom/winner Links http://www.safc.com/fans/visiting-fans Streaming http://xn--frstrowsports-39b.eu/
Top thread as always fella . Not having a go like coz I and I'm sure most on this board appreciate what you do, but whatever happened to the "fan's view" bit you used to, with the little mini interviews with a poster from this board and the oppo's? Been wondering for a while... always thought it was a nice little touch.
Difficult game with West Brom in good form lately, I'm hoping Gus's open letter to the fans has inspired the players to put in a shift in front of another big crowd at The SOL. Lose and there will be a huge clamour for Gus to go.
Changed the title for you fella. I hope we win through a dodgy penalty where someone falls over with minimal contact! There is no way they could complain after the opening day of the season!!
Must admit to not taking a huge amount of notice but I can`t recall him being in the news as being as pitiful as some of the others.
According to Gus, Defoe is "touch and go". Then went on to say, if everyone is fine after training today, all should be available. Including Catts.
Someone tell Wickham that the nasty centre half nicked his hairspray, tell Fletcher to stop flicking the ball up in the air to no one & tell AJ that games against teams in the bottom half are just as important ......... we have internationals all over the park ffs, stop playing as if you think the ball is a UXB.
Isn't mike Jones the one who let the beach ball goal stand? Good luck to the lads and lassies who are going.
Sunderland’s Defoe and Cattermole set to return from injury against West Brom please log in to view this image Sunderland's Jermain Defoe by Chris Young JERMAIN Defoe and Lee Cattermole could both return for Sunderland’s crunch clash with West Brom tomorrow. January signing Defoe missed last weekend’s FA Cup defeat at Bradford with a calf problem, while Cattermole hasn’t featured since December due to groin and knee injuries. But Gus Poyet today confirmed both have a chance of featuring against the Baggies, as Sunderland look to create some breathing space with the drop zone.
