Sunderland Vs QPR Official Sunderland Not606 Match Thread please log in to view this image Stadium Of Light please log in to view this image Preview You can't beat the pessimistic mind of a football fan. Within minutes ofHarry Redknapp's resignation last week a Sunderland supporter on social media was bemoaning that QPR's next away match was at the Stadium of Light. Forget the fact that Rangers are yet to pick up a single point on their travels; the forecast of doom was based merely on the quirky nature of football - a change of manager equals a change of fortune. It didn't work out like that versus Southampton on Saturday but QPR will hope for a slice of luck against the Black Cats. However, any hardy souls who travel from west London backing the Hoops will not need reminding they rarely see a winning side on Wearside. They have managed just one win in 11 visits spanning the last 42 years. Many anticipated Harry's game was to be reunited with Jermain Defoe when last month's transfer window reopened but instead it is Sunderland who are revitalised after his return to England. Gus Poyet is pleased with the impact the striker has made, admitting "we are a different team with Jermain." "When you've got a player sooner or later that you know is going to score it makes the rest of the team believe you've got a chance to win football games," he explains. For Sunderland this is the second part of a four-game cluster of home fixtures against their relegation rivals. The win against Burnley was their first in eight league matches at the Stadium of Light. With visits over the next few weeks from WBA and Aston Villa, plus a trip to Hull City, Poyet will see this as a pivotal period and a potential pathway to Premier League survival. QPR, meanwhile, simply must stop haemorrhaging points away from home if they are to survive. Another defeat would be a 12th consecutive away loss since the start of the season. Only Manchester United (16, in 1930-31) and Liverpool (13, in 1953-54) have worse records. Winger Adam Johnson will hope for a recall to the starting line-up. QPR Team News QPR striker Charlie Austin will miss the game with a bruised foot butcould return for Rangers' next match, at Hull on 21 February. Richard Dunne will be missing for three months with medial cruciate ligament damage, while Nedum Onuoha faces four weeks out with a hamstring injury. Stats & Facts Head to Head QPR have failed to win on their last six visits to the Sunderland (D3, L3). However, the Hoops have won the last two meetings between the sides, including a 1-0 victory at Loftus Road in August. Sunderland Sunderland have won just two Premier League home games, the joint lowest tally in the top flight. They have drawn half (12) of their Premier League games this season - three more than any other side. The Black Cats have been given 62 yellow cards this season in the Premier League - nine more than any other side. Jermain Defoe will be looking to score in three successive Premier League appearances for the first time since a five-match streak in March 2008. Defoe has two goals in three Premier League games for Sunderland since arriving in a swap deal for Jozy Altidore, who managed one in 42 top-flight matches for the Black Cats. QPR QPR have lost their first 11 away games in a top flight season - only Man Utd (16, in 1930-31) and Liverpool (13, in 1953-54) have worse records. Rangers have scored just six goals in their last 14 Premier League away matches. The Hoops have only scored the first goal in five of their 24 Premier League games this season - the worst record in the division. Injured top scorer Charlie Austin has 13 league goals - no other QPR player has more than three. Key Players please log in to view this image Sunderland: Jermain Defoe Sunderland’s biggest problem this season is they have lacked a consistent goalscorer. They will hope they have found that player in the shape of Premier League veteran Jermain Defoe. No Sunderland player has scored more than four goals this season. In only three Premier League matches, Defoe already has two goals for the side. Defoe has his critics when it comes to his overall game, but he gets goals and those goals could be the difference between Sunderland staying up and going down. Queens Park Rangers: Joey Barton Without Charlie Austin QPR could suffer in the goals department. QPR will need to be more creative without their top scorer. Joey Barton has created more chances than any other player in the squad. His combination of creativity and industry in the midfield will be vital for QPR. Without Austin, QPR will need their controversial Englishman to step up and put in some big performances. No excuses in this match imo. Poyet needs to give every player a copy of Sunderland V Hull, Boxing Day, to watch tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure it'll be a hard fought game but if Poyet & this team are what he hope then it should be a win. The home crowd deserve some excitement after the slow start to the season ............ I can't be there but I hope everyone enjoys it. I'd like to see us score a couple in the first half, and win 3 or 4-0, but would be happy with any kind of win. Going into the big match, on Sunday, without a relegation cloud could make it a day we talk about for years .......... .......... and I am going to that one
Going for a good win 2 -0, 3 - 0, whilst forcing that little voice of pessimism down. I think we have the squad and the skill to be too good for most of the surround ing teams - I'm sure it's been a mental thing at the club up till lately. So I am going to be doing my bit from afar - sending good positive vibes over the North Sea. Come on you bonny lads KTF
Depends which Sunderland turn up. If its the side who want it more we'll thrash them. If its the other one...I think there will be boos by the 70th minute and calls for Gus's heed
Depends which Sunderland turn up. If its the side who want it more we'll thrash them. If its the other one...I think there will be boos by the 70th minute and calls for Gus's heed Malagamackem get rid of that little voice, we are on the verge of being a good side and we can start believing in automatic wins at the SOL against mid and lower teams as well as a scalp or two each season. Positivity brings it's own rewards. KTF
We have to mate ........ the mentality of the entire club has to change. It just gives the players the perfect excuse otherwise.
Know what you mean, Smug. But we fans can also help by repressing the negativivty that has grown and lingers just under our skins. I like many many others when trying to voice some positive expectation always found that little rider, "but then again we are Sunderland" and come with some negative comment, cos we dare not challenge the Fates. So from now on It's positive thinking - even in defeat - cos I really believe we are only few players away from a good, deep squad capable of annual mid/upper positions in the table. KTF
Fairy snuff. I just want them all yo go out and give 100%. I have no worries about the quality in the squad to be mid table and above...but remember when we were kids playing on a Saturday morning and we ran until our lungs burst for our school teams..(Thornhill, St Aidans, Monkeyhouse, Bede, and the list goes on), Thats what Id love to see every time we watch now

The pressure is on Queens Park Rangers ahead of tonight’s game at the Stadium of Light, according to Gus Poyet. The Hoops currently sit five points behind the Black Cats in the Barclays Premier League table and they have lost all 11 of their games on the road during the current campaign. Top goalscorer Charlie Austin will miss out due to injury as will Nedum Onuoha and Richard Dunne, but head coach Poyet states the Black Cats must stay focussed in order to avoid any complacency. Speaking to safc.com the Uruguayan cast his eye over a big game on Wearside, explaining the need to replicate the levels of performance, desire and attitude displayed against Burnley in order to pick up another three points. “It is a big game,” said Poyet. “We knew that when we got to halfway in the Barclays Premier League that we had plenty of games at home against the teams in the bottom ten, and they’re games that you need to win if you want to be in a good position and start progressing. “We did it last weekend against Burnley and we need to make sure we do it again against QPR.” He added: “Our attitude, desire and concentration has to be spot on.” And Poyet also explained that the pressure is firmly on QPR as they attempt to seal their first points away from home. “I have no doubt that they need to win and I don’t even think that a draw is good for them. “We will see how the game goes because they are changing the staff and the players with a few injuries which means it will be very difficult for me to see their formation, so we need to cover as much as possible and see which players can adapt on the pitch depending on the personnel. “I always say that these things can go one of two ways,” explained Poyet. “People will say that they have nothing to lose so they will play a different kind of football, but I’m still a believer that when important players are missing it cannot be better for the club and it cannot be better for the group. “Saying that there was not too much difference in the away game and I thought we played well enough to get something from the game, so that shows you that one action, one corner or one decision can decide a game so let’s hope that it is for us and not against.”
Does anyone no how many tickets have been sold? I think it could be our first home league game under 40'000.
