Congratulations on getting past United in the semi-final. Interesting stat - Sunderland have not lost to City outside of Manchester in their last five games. City have not lost to Sunderland outside of Wearside in their last nine games. In the last 8 meetings between the two clubs, Sunderland have lost only twice, with City losing 4 times. As a City fan, I won't wish you good luck for the final. But here's hoping for a good game, and may the best team on the day win.
The cup Gods may be smiling down on us. In 1973 we beat three top teams to win it. This trophy it has been Soton, Chelsea and Man U. Like the the 1973 team, why should we fear anybody now. If it is lashing with raining on the day then divine providence exists.
Published: 24 January, 2014 by Kate Morton Defender delighted with City date at Wembley. After what he described as the ‘worst penalty shoot-out I’ve seen for a long while’ Sunderland’s Wes Brown could not hide his excitement after victory at Old Trafford set up a clash with the former Manchester United man’s old enemy, Manchester City. The Black Cats edged to the Capital One Cup Final after besting United on penalties at the Theatre of Dreams, a result the defender feels Sunderland were more than worthy of. “It would have been nice to win it in extra time, but we’re delighted to go through on penalties,” Brown told safc.com after the game. “We put so much effort into the game and I thought we played really well - we deserved to go through after the effort we put in.” Phil Bardsley’s late goal was cancelled out by Javier Hernandez’s even later goal as the United man forced the game into being decided by penalties. “The ending was absolute madness, we did really well to get back into the game after going 1-0 down and we had some good spells. “We managed to get the goal that we needed and a minute later it was followed by major disappointment after United scored,” Brown continued. “We knew we hadn’t lost the game at that point, but we also knew penalties were waiting and it was probably the worst penalty shoot-out I’ve seen for a long while,” the defender laughed. Brown’s assessment came after only Marcos Alonso and Ki Sung Yueng were able to score from the spot for Sunderland, whilst only Darren Fletcher was successful for the home side. “There were seven penalties taken and we got two and they only got one – we were absolutely buzzing! We hadn’t practised either in training, we probably need to next time! The 34 year-old has previously competed in eight cup finals during his career, including the FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup. He’s only twice been involved at finals at the new Wembley Stadium, his last involvement was back in 2010 as an unused substitute in Manchester United’s League Cup triumph over Aston Villa and Brown admitted he can’t wait to return with Sunderland. “We knew we had Manchester City in the final if we got through and that’s a great reward. “Personally I’m delighted to be back in a cup final; t’s a great achievement for the club and I hope each and every Sunderland fan enjoys the moment!”

Without checking I think we've had a pretty good record against City in the last 3 years it so. Is there another team that's taken more points from them than us? Grasping at whatever small straw is available against arguably the strongest squad in the PL for years, are we their bogey team?
Ah well, flights booked. Next up, Tickets. The Mrs is like "what, you've just been back to the UK for one match, you're going back for another? Weren't you going to consult me?" " Er no love, i'm gannin to Wembley, to see my team in a cup final.... It shouldn't be too hard to grasp". March, Mackem Madness...
