Venue: Stadium Of Light (Sunderland) Date: Sunday 27th April Kick Off: 12pm Sunderland Manager: Gus Poyet Cardiff Manager: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer According to Sportsmole: Sunderland host Cardiff City on Sunday lunchtime knowing that three points could potentially take them out of the relegation zone. The Black Cats stunned both Manchester City and Chelsea last week by taking four points off the title-chasing sides to close the gap from the bottom of the table to safety to just three points. Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is likely to name the same starting lineup that performed so impressively at Stamford Bridge. Five points from their last four games has helped Cardiff retain hope of avoiding the drop, and a win at the Stadium of Light could see the Bluebirds move out of the relegation zone. Despite only drawing at home with Stoke City last weekend, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could name the same 11 players for the trip to the North-East. Sunderland host Cardiff City on Sunday (KO 12 noon) looking to continue their recent resurgence. Head coach Gus Poyet is hoping for a packed house and tickets for the game are still available in person at the Stadium of Light ticket office, over the phone on 0871 911 1973, or via the online ticketing service. The Black Cats have given themselves a real shot in the arm with a four-point return from tough away trips to title-chasing Manchester City and Chelsea. Connor Wickham scored twice in a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium before finding the net again at Chelsea as Fabio Borini’s penalty proved the difference in a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge. That result – Jose Mourinho’s first home league defeat in 78 games as Chelsea manager – saw Sunderland continue to close the gap on the teams above them. And they go into the remaining four fixtures – one more than several of their rivals – with hopes of top-flight survival very much alive and kicking. Just a point separates Sunderland and Cardiff, who secured a 1-1 home draw with Stoke last time out. City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has won five of his 18 games in charge since replacing Malky Mackay on January 2, drawing three and losing 10. The former Manchester United striker has seen his side take five points from their last six games (W1, D2, L3). Sunday's game sees former Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell return to the Stadium of Light for the first time. Campbell has made 37 appearances for City this season, scoring nine goals. Meanwhile, Kenwyne Jones will also return to Wearside, having joined Cardiff from Stoke during the January transfer window. The two teams, who will meet for the 63rd time on Sunday, drew 2-2 at the Cardiff City Stadium earlier in the season, with Sunderland cancelling out a 2-0 deficit thanks to goals from Steven Fletcher and Jack Colback. That result was the only stalemate in the last six matches between Sunderland and Cardiff, who are making only their fourth ever visit to the Stadium of Light. City have won two, drawn four and lost 11 of their 17 away games this season, scoring 12 goals and conceding 32. After Sunday’s game, Solskjaer’s side travel to Newcastle before hosting Chelsea on the final day, while Sunderland’s trip to Manchester United next week is followed by home clashes with West Brom and Swansea.
not sure I'm liking that the 'expert' Lawrenson has put us down for win I hope after whatever happens (hopefully the BBC pundit has called it correct ) this weekend both sides stay up
http://www.11v11.com/matches/sunderland-v-cardiff-city-28-april-1979-118878/ A day earlier than in 1979 but near enough to hope that history repeats itself.
Been like a derby week this, haven't thought about anything else. It's a funny scenario we find ourselves in, as many of us, including myself, had accepted our fate after the West Ham game (a game we absolutely bossed from start to finish, yet managed to lose). The thing is though, the performance in that West Ham game becomes significant now, we've played well 3 games in a row, we should by all accounts have taken 9 instead of 4 points but that's been the season. We've lacked a goalscorer and Whickhams emergence couldn't have been more fairytale if he'd came onto the pitch at the Etihad on a white ****ing horse. I am not calling this game, what I know is you will come to a buoyant, bouncing and busy stadium, full of hope and a little expectation, hopefully our players can feed off that. There's teams I'd rather go down before Cardiff, but we ain't one of them, so all the best after Sunday, I genuinely don't think any result is the end for anyone in this frankly ridiculous season at the bottom.
We need our defense to be on high alert and our mid and striker(s) to keep possesion. Totally agree on how much it feels like a derby. I would piss my pants if we win

You know this oddball owner of yours, he says blue is unlucky, but has left the team playing in a stadium covered in blue seats. Surely that is the ultimate hex, if he believes his own ****e?
Good luck, Cardiff chaps and chapesses. I'm hoping we're marginally less crap than you, but this one's going to be close!
WELSHMEN WILL NOT YIELD unless their playing Sunderland, before you start biting its a joke, a bit pissed and happy
