A Quiz made by the UKs largest quiz website QuizFactor.com included questions that are usually answered incorrectly was sent out nationwide. The quiz included 30 questions put into 6 categories; sport, art and literature, lifestyle, geography, science and technology and Politics & history.
Some of the questions included the likes of 'what is the smallest planet in our solar system', these being answered by over 5,000 UK residents.
Each person that took the quiz stated their nearest city and the results were obtained by calculating the greatest number of correctly answered questions as a percentage of the completed quizzes.
Sunderland as a city scored over 70% of correctly answered questions on the quiz, putting them in the lead of all the cities included. Exeter in second place with 68%, Newcastle Upon Tyne coming in with a mere 43% at 26th place!!
The marketing director of QuizFactor.com stated that Sunderland did very well to come out on top, saying this was the definitive test of intelligence in the UK.

    Who ate all the pies?

Sunderland fans, according to a new health report.

An online survey from NHS Choices claims that the Black Cats have the Premier League's fattest supporters, munching their way through a mountain of crisps, sweets, pasties and pies.

The poll of 25,000 supporters assessed their health and fitness based on weight, smoking and alcohol consumption.

It revealed that just over half of SAFC fans were an unhealthy weight.

Everton came second in the table, followed by Blackburn, which has the most smokers, and Fulham, which has the most supporters who exceeded the recommended units of alcohol per day.

Newcastle came 16th in the study of 20 clubs.

The Echo asked Sunderland AFC fans what they thought about being branded the most unhealthy.

Colin Metcalf, 63, said: "I don't know if it's true really, it's the sort of food you like at half time. There's a lot more other teams in the group who are unhealthier than Sunderland."

Anne Metcalf, 57, sales assistant, said: "Newcastle are just as bad. Anywhere is just as bad."

Tommy Leng, 53, of Hendon, added: "I'm healthy, get lots of exercise. I've been following the team for 32 years now and Newcastle are the worst."

Owen Imeson, 27, a painter and decorator, from Sunderland, said: "I'm a supporter and would like to think I'm healthy."

Bob Duncan, 68, retired, of Jarrow, said: "I have four pints before and four pints after, but I do normally go for walks from Sunderland to Shields and back on non-match days."

What they failed to mention was that if a person takes up three seats they are counted as three separate people not one. So that accounts for Newcastles relatively low placing.

Most of this survey doesn't surprise me at all. However, the mags coming in as high as 26th seems a bit iffy!

We may be fatties (not me, I'm svelte...) but we also have the longest lengths in England....

'An undisputeable, categorically did happen survey has proved beyond all doubt that the manfolk of Sunderland have the biggest penises in England.

They average 7.6 inches, compared to a national average of 5.8inches.

At the other end of the table are men from neighbouring Newcastle, averaging a 'smaller than a Chinese mans' 2.3 inches, although several thousand penises were to small to be measured in the city, bringing down the average.

Newcastle is, amusingly, home to the worlds biggest penis, Alan Shearer.'

    Facts, you can't whack them.

Meaningless. The test group was nowhere near big enough. I didn't get sent one of these quizzes and neither did anyone I know. Did anyone on here? Anyone any of you know? Doubtful, ergo this "research" fails.

P.S. The above opinion has absolutely no relevance to my closest city being Norwich... <whistle>

Erm you do realise this report on the EPL was made during the season you were in the lower leagues dont you? Your position at the head of this report, as witnesed by the fat, lard arsed, toon gut buckets we see each week on the TV pictures, which we are all sadly subjected from both Wonga Park and beyond, would be assured had you managed to actually be in the top flight of English football at the time.

As it is, you were just a lowly championship team at the time.
