SUNDERLAND are reportedly preparing a £7m bid for Ireland striker Shane Long. The Black Cats face stiff competition from Wolves, Everton and Newcastle, but their ability to increase his wages to £40,000 a week could trump their rivals. Danny Graham is beginning to look like very good value. Inexcusable that we missed out on him. I presume Warnock is hanging on for a Mittal takeover, otherwise he would surely have walked at this stage.
Whilst we don't know about the behind-the-scenes negotiations and what was being demanded, I agree that Graham would have seemed a great signing. I can't believe that Long is worth £7m and £40k a week. I wouldn't want him at anywhere near that price. Surely, these figures are just paper talk? Like you, Ciarrai, I reckon that NW must be feeling deflated.
£7million?? They can have him. We should have got Graham but hopefully Warnock has something else lined up. I think we might get Bothroyd as he's on a free and Warnock has always liked him. I still think we need another striker. What happened to the Andy Johnson talk?
£7m? £40k pwk? Sunderland are obviously a lot better off than us!! What happening Bernie, me old tycoon?
lets not forget they sold Darren Bent for £24 mill and henderson for £16 mill so they have cash to burn
I wouldn't give you £7m for Long, I wouldn't give you £3.5m for Graham and I certainly wouldn't give you £4m for CMS. Pump the money into Jay Bothroyds wages for 3 years, he's far better than any of these 3, epsecially with the formation we play. No brainer.
The money for these players seems madness! We might as well press ahead with Troy at this rate. Nothing to lose now
bakes8, if only you were the man who pulled the strings, with that attitude you would have Jay Bothroyd dry humping your leg all over London. He left us (Cardiff) expecting everyone to be fighting for his signature and to my knowledge there has been no concrete offer, Everton seemed to have been mentioned the most followed by QPR, Sunderland and Newcastle, however Sunderland have a load of money and cant wait to splash out and Newcastle seem intent on turning themselves into the North easts very own les bleus so that would suggest you and Everton. Money talks with this guy and its the last big contract he will sign so its a case of whoever pays gets him, would be a good signing for you.
