Sunderland open top bus parade

Pinata-faced Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce, confirmed this morning that he and his team would be parading the streets of Sunderland in an open top bus on Wednesday 25th May to celebrate the team's historic achievement of finishing 1 point above their newly promoted rivals, Newcastle.

Bruce announced, whilst grinning from jowel to jowel, "This represents one of the proudest moments of my career and the highlight of Sunderland's recent history. It proves that I did not, indeeed, waste £millions in Harrods by buying overated ****e, and those who questioned my tactical nous and motivational skills will now have to accept that I am The Special One..............what do you mean that's Jose Mourinho?......oh ok, well lets call me Mr Incredible instead."

He continued
"Yes I know that I may have mentioned Europe, maybe once, but that was to disguise our real target of finishing way above those nasty people at Newcastle who sang a rude song about me. But it really is a case of mission accomplished because if you look at the points difference, you will see just how huge the chasm is between us!!"

Starting to perspire and with a dark wet stain appearing in the front of Bruce's trousers he carried on,
"We have commissioned a special trophy for the occassion. We are going to call it the League Cup. Yes I know that there is already a League Cup but there was already a Stadium of Light and that did not stop us with coming up with an equally inventive name for our stadium!! and the best bit is that at last I get to play my song. You are going to love it and it will really teach those Geordies a lesson. It's called The Blaydon Races."

When questioned on his club's target for next season Bruce suddenly started singing "I dreamed a dream" and then informed us that he would only respond to being called by the name of Susan.

It is understood though, that Chairman Niall Quinn has his reservations regarding the proposed victory parade. He is of the opinion that whilst several Sunderland fans may turn out to cheer their team, the vast majority of "supporters" will want to watch it from the comfort of their local pub.

He set one of the hardest targets of the 'Top 9' and they only missed out by one place.

I'd expect that the usage of a 'Top 9' place will proliferate amongst other teams given it's merits of attaining a European place.
