    SUNDERLAND are on red alert for any late transfer window drama, but are still not expecting any further arrivals at the Stadium of Light.
    Gus Poyet stressed after the capture of Jermain Defoe a fortnight ago that the England striker was likely to be the one and only fresh face arriving on Wearside this month.
    Sunderland still have one domestic loan available to them, but with the club close to the limits of the Financial Fair Play regulations, it would be a surprise to see the Black Cats make further moves before Monday’s transfer deadline.
    However, Sunderland are prepared in case any players become unexpectedly available, or there are any shock departures from the Stadium of Light.
    “If there are no surprises, no I don’t think so,” said Poyet today, when asked about any potential additional signings.
    “But we are ready.
    “That’s the difficulty of being in this situation.
    “You can get a phone call or anything at any time and you need to be ready, just in case you need something to cover.
    “But at the moment, no.”
    There could be a couple of departures before the deadine though, with Sunderland working on exits for Charis Mavrias and Cabral.

    Disappointed but not surprised at this, we need to work with who we have at the club. The squad is decent, but as we have seen so far form and fitness levels have been below par in a few key departments lets hope tomorrow heralds an upturn.

    Red alert means more about being afraid of commies than being ready to pounce on the transfer market :(

    Its a confusing article, how can we be on red alert if our hands are tied or are they just close to our chest, i'd hate to sit through the watching of the gurning shreiking jim white for **** all, saying that the eye candy is always a pleasure if they arent all matching his ****ing tie again

    If Defoe doesnt kick-start the run-in we could be in trouble.

    Its bloody frustrating watching other clubs actively involved in windows like this while we sit on the sidelines watching everyone else have fun.

    So, for me, GP's honeymoon period is over. From here on in, this is where GP proves himself at this level, whether he's smart enough, and experienced enough to adapt week-in, week-out, to the situation we're in.

    He sinks or swims.

    If we can offload Cabral and Mavrias it opens the door for a player to come in. Stating the obvious I know but that's about where we are right now.

    TBH that concerns me as we must have some really high earners, or a very low income cos we don't have that big a squad. Where does that leave us for squad development next season?

    I don't understand how we can be close to the FFP limit but Hull appear to be on the verge of shelling out another £10m on players after spending big in the past few windows.

    Does anybody know how this mysterious FFP formula works?

    Don't know the nitty gritty details but basically you can't spend more than you earn. I honestly don't understand how we can be close to that unless debts come into it as well? we have a fairly decent income in comparison to the likes of Hull etc, how can they splash the cash and we can't?

    Just looked this up mate.

    Financial Fair Play Explained
    There are currently Financial Fair Play rules in place in:
    • UEFA competitons (for all clubs wishing to take part in the Champions League and Europa League)
    • The Premier League (from 2013/14)
    • The Championship (with punishments from 2013/14)
    • Leagues 1 and 2
    The 2013/14 season is a watershed for financial constraint in football. For the first time, all English professional divisions have rules in place that restrict their spending. The restrictions are summarised in the attached table. This table and an accompanying article appeared in the August 2013 edition of When Saturday Comes magazine:
    #I517_img {-moz-box-sizing: border-box;-webkit-box-sizing: border-box;box-sizing: border-box;width: 860px;border:none;max-width: 100%;height: auto;}

    .old_text_widget img {max-width: 100%;height: auto;}
    Note to editors: the above table (or variants based on it) cannot be produced without permission
