Marcus Angeleri SAFC v Leicester City Friendly away to Leicester City Sunderland won 2-1 Published on Saturday 24 September 2011 10:34 SUNDERLAND misfit Marcos Angeleri has undergone a knee operation which will rule him out of football for the rest of the year. It is the second operation on the same knee in under six months for the Argentine international. While it means he will certainly not play again in 2011, no date has been put on his return, with the prospect existing that he could be out for the remainder of the season. That will not be a blow to boss Steve Bruceâs plans, the Sunderland manager having already moved on in terms of right-backs with John OâShea, Phil Bardsley and Ahmed Elmohamady all ahead of the South American (pictured) in the pecking order for the full-back slot. But it is a devastating blow for the player personally, who had hoped a summer operation in his homeland would solve the knee ligament problem which has stalled his Sunderland career and effectively any hopes of carving out a career in the Premier League. we bought a dud in this guy, hope hes gone soon
Bruce has bought a few duds in his time here! What annoys me more is that he won't play his new signings in the first team!!Why has he never started young Wickham up-front??
why buy players who supposidly improve the team who are aledgedly better than what we already have then let them bench warm ? beats me
The same reason Chelsea bought Lukaka. Arsenal bought Wallcott/Oxlaide Chamberlain for big big bucks, to learn from good coaches and good players around them, and then play them when they need to be played/when they are ready. there isnt that many 18 yr olds that set the premier league alight, even Rooney didnt, think he got 18 goals in 64 games for Everton, not that impressive.
Blackcatsteve,Chelsea and Arsenal can afford to pay big money on players for the future...we can't!!Even Everton played a young Rooney and gave him a chance.Bruuce paid big money for Wickham,so why not play him??After all,Gyan has gone!
Gyan's only been gone for a fortnight, let's see how Wickham pans out. I'm sure if Bruce had seen something in training mind-blowing he would have started a while ago.
In fairness to Bruce, he showed every intention of playing Angeleri, who I thought was a very exciting signing. He played in the pre-season series in Portugal and aggravated his knee injury out there. When he did look something like fit again, Bruce did play him - he had a few games both in the first team and in the reserves last season. But he was never completely right and went to Argentina for another operation this summer. Now this. I feel sorry for the lad, for Bruce, and for SAFC. When he's been picked for the international squad by two successive Argentine coaches, he's obviously a good player and I don't understand why people get on his back. This latest blow is such a pity.
tottaly agre you dont play in the same internationl team as messi & aguero if your a numpty unless argentina are totely lacking in right backs
SPOT ON, I too thought it was a good signing, feel sorry for the lad, this might just kill off his career, and you dont get to be an ARGENTINE international by deing a dud, sorry ROG.
