MARTIN OâNEILL is preparing to let his fringe players go in search of first-team football when the emergency loans window opens this weekend. The Black Cats boss admits outgoing loan deals were well down his list of priorities while he concentrated on getting his own squad in shape for the Premier League campaign, adding five new signings before the transfer window closed on August 31. But, after a seven-day break, Football League clubs are permitted to sign players on emergency loan deals as of Saturday. And OâNeill is now ready to listen to offers for some of his young players who need experience, safe in the knowledge that he can recall them at any time after the first 28 days if Sunderland suffer an injury crisis. âWhen the transfer window was still open, the most important aspect for me was what players we had available and to make sure that we were covered,â said OâNeill. âBut now the emergency loan window is getting ready to open this weekend, Iâll look at other things. âThere is the possibility that maybe some players will go out on loan. âThe key thing there is that they would be going on emergency loans, which means they could be called back after 28 days if necessary. âI donât mind allowing players to leave on emergency loans because they will be getting games and â providing we can survive the first 28 days â if we pick up injury problems, we can recall them.â OâNeill may also consider allowing £8m teenager Connor Wickham and 21-year-old South Korea international Ji Dong-Won to go out and get some first-team experience, after both struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League last season following moves to Wearside. But the most likely players to be given a chance to shine in the lower leagues are homegrown youngsters such as 19-year-old centre-backs Louis Laing and John Egan, 21-year-old midfielder Adam Reed, 19-year-old frontman Ryan Noble and 20-year-old striker Craig Lynch. Last season, Laing spent time at Wycombe Wanderers while Egan had spells at Crystal Palace and Sheffield United, Reed played at Bradford City and Brentford, and Noble went to Derby and Hartlepool. The only outgoing loan OâNeill sanctioned before last weekâs transfer deadline saw Egypt international winger Ahmed Elmohamady join up with ex-Sunderland boss Steve Bruce at Hull City on a season-long deal, rather than on an emergency loan which can only run for a maximum of three months. OâNeill said: âElmo was keen to play games. âHe will play matches there and the deal includes a clause that means we can recall him in January, if we need to.â Read More http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport
Be good for them, the likes of Laing Egan, Knott and Noble need to be in the championship playing regularly.
I would send Ji to the Championship until January to get more experience with the English game. I'd keep Wickham with the main squad as he already has enough Championship experience and now needs EPL experience.
