Despite failing to land their man in January, Sunderland arenât quite ready to give up on the signature of Mohammed Abdellaoue and look set to go back in for the forward this summer. The Norwegain international has impressed greatly for Hannover 96 this season, scoring 16 goals and registering six assists in the process. Sunderland will be on the lookout for a striker in the summer period with the loan deal of Nicklas Bendtner expiring at the end of the season and the North East club unlikely to acquire his services again. Martin OâNeill has voiced his doubts over Asamoah Gyan coming back to the club and the club stating that they would be willing to sell the Ghanaian should the right offer come in. United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain loaned the hitman in September for a supposed fee of £6m and should someone else offer the same fee but for a permanent deal, Gyan would likely be let go. On boost for the Black Cats was seeing Fraizer Campbell return to fitness this campaign after 18 months on the sidelines but with just Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-Won â 19 and 20, respectively â backup will be needed. Abdellaoue played a big role in leading Hannover to the quarter-finals of this seasonâs Europa League tournament. Demba Ba, Papiss Demba Cissé and Pavel Pogrebnyak are just some examples of forwards to come from the German top flight and succeed in the Premier League; something OâNeill will be looking to replicate with Abdellaoue. The 26 year-old has made nineteen appearances for the Norwegian national side and is set to go up against England in a friendly fixture in a monthâs time, giving many sides a chance to scout the sough-after striker. Should he move on from his current Bundesliga surroundings, Abdellaoue would be expected to command an asking price of around £9.5m, a fee that could be readily available should Sunderland owner, Ellis Short, choose to invest considerably this summer would love it if we got him
aye he looks like the sort of player we need, he knows how to get himself into the 6yard box and knows how to get a goal why he is in there, abit like Cisse at Newcastle. If we can get atleast 9.5m for Gyan the money should be used for this lad
We'll have that available anyway Poolie, Fletcher will likely be another £6million (i'm certain of our interest), doesn't leave a lot. Seems the big issue isn't going to be fees, but getting the wage bill down.
AGREE 100%, makes me shudder thinking back before Quinny became chairman Wouldn't mind seeing Abdellaoue and Fletcher as our front two next season, I aint the biggest fan of Fletcher but I am starting to warm to the idea, if we had them two upfront then we would have two strikers certainly capable of getting into double figures but as you said earlier "him and Fletcher would be a smashing combo" wer would that leave Sess? For me Sess needs to stay and the team built around him in a free role not as a winger. MoNsMush, wouldn't mind a double raid at Hannover like... I'd play Sess at the front of a midfield diamond Poolie, his best position IMO. Not a big fan of Ya Konan, very 'patchy' player.
I dont know if any of you folks can remember, but we were sniffing around this lad when he was playing in Norway a few yrs back, infact Iam almost sure that under the Keane regime he was very close to signing for us before we pulled out of the deal. The reason we pulled out of the deal was to do with the fact that our club felt he may not be able to make the step up, clearly the lad has !!!
