Sunderland boss OâNeill has filled us with confidence, says Sessegnon Published on Wednesday 28 December 2011 10:30 MARTIN OâNeill is already working his magic on Sunderland, reckons Stephane Sessegnon. OâNeill has taken seven points from his four games in charge to propel Sunderland up to 15th in the Premier League table and give them some breathing space from the bottom three. Like many of Sunderlandâs players, Sessegnon was sad to see the demise of Steve Bruce after the ex-Black Cats boss brought the Benin international to Wearside from Paris St Germain in a £6million deal 12 months ago. But Sessegnon was aware of OâNeillâs feats at Aston Villa and Celtic while he was plying his trade in the French League and believes he has injected some new impetus into a Sunderland side struggling at the wrong end of the table. Sessegnon told the Echo: âItâs been good so far. Heâs only had a few matches but since getting a victory in his first game against Blackburn, thereâs been more confidence about us. âI knew of him while I was in France. âIâd heard about what he was doing at Villa. I donât think thereâs been massive change in things in training. âBut heâs keen to develop a good spirit among the players and itâs all been positive. âItâs football what happened to Steve Bruce. You become used to managers leaving. âThis season, weâve given our maximum, but no one takes pleasure in losing. âThe most important thing is to do the best thing for the club and results hadnât been good.â
