Sunderland boss Martin OâNeill fires off Wolves warning TARGET ... Wolverhampton Wanderers' Steven Fletcher. By GRAEME ANDERSON Published on Saturday 18 August 2012 10:00 MARTIN OâNeill has fired a shot across Wolvesâ bows by insisting Sunderland will not be held to ransom in the transfer market. The Sunderland boss did not mention the West Midlands club or their wantaway striker Steven Fletcher by name when he described his current approach to the transfer marker. But there could be little doubt he was talking about both when he warned that Sunderland would switch their attentions elsewhere rather than pay hugely inflated prices for their main targets. Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey gave a public rebuke to the Black Cats earlier this week after rejecting Sunderland bids of £10m, £12m and a club record-equalling £13m for a player they value at £15m. Moxey effectively told Sunderland to stump up the £15m or leave. But OâNeill has indicated that while he will continue to chase his first-choice target, Sunderlandâs interest has its limits. âThere are certain targets I would like to get that I would like to persist with if at all possible,â said OâNeill. âIf that doesnât materialise, of course I have other people in mind â that Iâve always had in mind. âBut I would like to try and chase down the people who I think would be absolutely ideal for the club. âLike everything in the transfer market, you think that somebody is worth âXâ amount of pounds but if the other football club value them in a different light â which is totally and utterly their prerogative â and you canât reach an agreement, then there are other alternatives. âThatâs the nature of the game.â With the Fletcher saga dragging on and so far no nearer resolution, OâNeill moved swiftly this week to get in experienced striker Louis Saha on a Bosman free transfer to boost his options ahead of todayâs season opener against Arsenal. Sahaâs arrival has eased some of the pressure and given the manager some breathing space but OâNeill is determined to bring in more new faces before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. âI think itâs pretty obvious that we still need some goal power. âWeâve got a couple of weeks left before the transfer deadline and I expect to add to the squad. âBy September 1, we want to have a squad that is capable of competing. âThe end of the transfer window comes around very, very quickly and at that point you know where you stand. âIn an ideal world, of course, it would have been nice to have players in by the beginning of July but it has been a very slow market. âWe are still searching for players and I would hope that, before the end of the transfer window, we will have players who will make the squad competitive - and hopefully more than that.â Saha is OâNeillâs second summer signing having already brought ex-Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar to the club on a Bosman free transfer. shieldsgazsport
He's a touch of class mart like, i reckon the fletcher deal could down to the end of the window, hope we get him, just what we need! And thanks for posting btw, nice read

As it's your first visit to our board and it's given us some amusement, I thought I'd let your thread stand, but take note, you won't be treat leniently the next time. and obi one The m'on effect You don't want to keep posting tis tripe on here and get yourself banned. This is not the existence you were looking for. You want to go back to your board and reconsider your life. Move along! one rule for them and none for us equal playing field
I think MON is a good manager, but this will not achieve anything. Wolves are holding out for the right price. If they don't want to sell for any less then X amount, then they wont have their minds changed by MON's threat of "we will not be held to ransom".
think your wrong there Tash, nobody else has put an offer in, we put a reasonable offer in poxy moxy is quoted as saying he wants 15m, if we do go for Berbs he in the **** and cant strengthen himself without the Fletcher cash, plus he may need him off the books , with prem wages in the fizzy pop
Not on prem wages by all accounts. Wolves players salaries were halved when they were relegated. That's why Fletcher is desperate to join us.
Well played sir. Your bowling in the corridor of uncertainty brought them onto the front foot of threatening a ban to show them up as the hypocritical **** dogs they are.
We should wait 'till Jan. See how Wolves like having an unhappy player for half of the season, will surely make them desperate to sell?
He will be a very pissed off player by January and could be moved on for far less than the £12m on offer now. We will have a different striker in place by then.
