Sunderland welcome Burnley to the Stadium of Light in the Championship. Last time out Sunderland beat Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley beat Cardiff. Sunderland made one change to the expected starting 11 with Chris Rigg replacing the injured Alan Browne. The Black Cats stormed to a 3-0 lead within the first 25 minutes as they blew Danny Rohl’s team away. Eliezer Mayenda added a fourth just after the break to seal a 4-0 win. Jack Clarke will not feature after agreeing to join Ipswich Town. Alan Browne could return to the side after injury and Ian Poveda played 45 minutes for the U21s on Monday and could be on the bench for this game. Triantis picked up a knock on Monday and might be a doubt. New signing Wilson Isidor could be on the bench. Burnley are top of the Championship table after an impressive 4-1 away win at Luton and a 5-0 home win against Cardiff. Burnley midfielder Sander Berge has moved to Fulham after the Clarets accepted a £25m bid for the Norway international. Wilson Odobert and Scott Twine left last week and various other players including keeper James Trafford are linked with moves away. They have recently signed centre backs Bashir Humphreys from Chelsea, Joe Worrall from Forest and forward Andreas Hountondji from Caen. Regis le Bris: “I will find many elements, phases and moments of the game where we can improve, for me, it’s the beginning of the season. It’s okay with the dynamic.” “We prefer to have six points now as opposed to three or two or none but we have 44 games. It’s so long but I am happy with the start for sure. We still have the same mindset to improve.” “Nothing is close at the moment," Le Bris said prior to the game against the Owls. "We are working really hard, we’re in discussions with many players in and out. We are confident, this market is very difficult, the process is complex but I think we will succeed maybe in the next few days.” Presser: Scott Parker: “Overall a really good game, they caused us problems early on, we had to weather it in certain moments, a fortunate goal for us to go 1-0 up.” “I want us to be a dominant team, a fast attacking team when we can, dominate the game in certain moments and in the overall game we did that.” “At the end of the game the fans staying in their droves to obviously support the team and see the team out” “Support wise it was fantastic for us” Match Appointments Referee: STEPHEN MARTIN Assistant Referees: Mark Dwyer & Blake Antrobus Fourth Official: Martin Coy Team Lineups: Sunderland AFC: (4-3-3) Patterson, Cirkin, Alese, O’Nien, Hume, Neil, Rigg, Jobe, Mundle, Mayenda, Roberts. Betting Odds: Sunderland 2/1 Burnley 13/10 Draw 23/10 Prutton Predicts: meh My two pence: A fantastic display against the Owls and a great start for Regis Le Bris at the SoL. It was an outstanding team performance, with 4 or 5 players vying for the man of the match award. Hopefully we get a few deals sorted this week and Burnley lose a few more of their star players. The Clarets look very strong and blew away both Luton and Cardiff but we’ve also started well and given our home advantage we can win this. I’m going for a 3-2 home win. Cracking match thread mate, we're blessed on here. I'm going to abandon all caution and say we'll win this game ... ... Burnley have players flying in and out of the club so a good time to play them. I'm not going to go along with the idea that Burnley are unbeatable, they'll lose games this season so no reason one of those can't be on Saturday ... ... Ha’way the Lads!!!
Great thread as always @RTB I honestly think we will give them a real challenge and can see us sneaking a 2-1 victory, confidence is high and with our speed of thought and movement we will cause them problems. Roberts and Jobe both to score
Burnley will be thereabouts for top 2 potentially so will be a great test for us. Really pleased with what I've seen so far from us.
Another difficult game but aren't they all in this league. Get at them like we did Sunday and bring home the points lads. A more boisterous crowd for the whole game would be nice too. Great thread RTB we're truly blessed on here.HTL.
2–2 First challenge of the season and will be a good marker of where we are. Watching the highlights against Cardiff, and whilst they Burnley were the better side, the scoreline seemed to flatter them. Can’t decide if they were that good, Cardiffs keeper had been paid off before kick off.
Can’t wait for this. Tough as it comes. Best side in league. Don’t massively rate Parker as a gaffer but what he is good at is settling teams, just doesn’t really seek to take them on. They are a threat, we great at back, we are a threat, they can be got at. I think it’s an entertaining 2-2. If we pinch it I’ll be ecstatic but if I walk out and we 7 from 9 I won’t be grumbling. It’s going to give us a real pointer for where we are this season, that’s for sure.
Hoping we really go for it, like last week, and get another statement win. I’ll still take 1-1 tho. Bart
Looking at performance a bit more than result here. Obviously points are important but a loss with a good performance would tell me more than a point that we didn't deserve. Burnley have the best squad in the division for me, they are losing so many players but the quality level isn't going down. From everything i've seen and read, their 5-0 win over Cardiff was very flattering and they didn't actually play that well but it shows how clinical they are. 1-1, O'Nien to score again.
Burnley looked excellent against Luton first game, I didn’t watch them against Cardiff but apparently it wasn’t a 5-0 game. We have played two different styles with Le Bris adapting and setting us up to win both games. The one thing our performances will do is give Parker something to think about, he will know that they are in for a battle and can’t just turn up. I would love us to sneak a win but will go for 1-1.
Burnley had 9 shots against Cardiff - we had 11. They had 4 shots on target - same as we did, but had a lucky opening goal
People are quick to claim Cardiff were poor and Wednesday didn't play well ... ... but think Burnley are just better than Luton and Cardiff. It's a strange psychology, some of our fans have, of degrading our own performances. On a different forum people are ignoring how well we played and saying the first goal came from an incorrectly given free kick, the second a Wednesday error, the third a fluke and the fourth a tap in ... ... I've honestly no idea what pleasure they get from watching us play, it must be like death by 'a thousand pricks'. Although I don't think there's that many of them, they're just prolific
I say this often, if you are that ****ing determined to be negative all the time why ****ing bother? Not worth it, there is plenty of times it is negative don't need to look for it when it isn't there!
Exactly mate. Supporting Sunderland is like walking endlessly through an arid wasteland. If you find a cold pint in the desert you'd want to swallow it down to the last drop ... ... some people would complain it was too chilled, in the wrong glass and the malt content too high
I fancy a draw here and I assume we'll be under the cosh for the bulk, but we look dangerous and solid, hopefully we give them a good game.
Well I'm going for another draw. I've predicted draws for the first 2 games and we've won so same again for me please
