Two races of Arc trials and a fillies Group 1. Super stuff.

    See also Les Arc Trials

    Straight to it:

1.50 ORFEVRE 5/4 Will be fully wound up and will want to prove they have a legitimate Arc chance by winning the trial. Meandre is a touch inconsistent and has had some hard races this season- can't see him being a factor. Orfevre ought to win this before going in well fancied in the main event. Don't think he is the Arc winner, but I do think he will run a good race.

    2.40 LAST TRAIN 15/8

Looked unlucky when losing out a great finish with Imperial Monarch and was possibly held onto that bit too long for lack of room LTO. The small field worries me but at the same time this horse travels well and I think has the stamina to win this. Still very lightly raced and an interesting Arc outsider. Wil be shorter if winning this.

    Prix Vermeille:

    ROMANTICA 8/1

Unlucky not to have more wins to her formline- been begging for a step up in trip and is rapidly on the uprade. Will relish the mile and a half, lovely Galileo pedigree, and I think Maxime Guyon learnt a great deal from the two recent deauville runs- that this is a horse who will stay but also one that needs to be urged to quicken when necessary, meaning positioning is key. Really exciting filly and one that will progress again I feel.

Anyone think this run over 10f gives plenty of encouragement over a mile and a half?

    Nice one Toppy

Inxile will not be far away in the 12.30.

was impressed with Shareta at York so would stick with her in the Vermeille but it is a good renewal

Willing Foe an interesting runner in the 4.20 after his Ebor win.

Great Heavens a non runner; waiting for fillies race on Champion's Day at Ascot. Horse not 100% according to John Gosden.

Meandre to win the Foy for me, this looks a much stronger race than the Niel and I can't see the Arc winner coming from the 3YO race.

Nice card at Listowel. If the opener were a 2YO maiden we'd be drooling - offspring of Hurricane Run, Rock Of Gibralter, Galileo, Dansili, Holy Roman Emporer and Red Clubs <laugh>

Mullins and Walsh ought to land a double and Cavite Beta catches the eye in the 4.20 after a fine debut 2nd over fences. But the best race of the card is surely the handicap chase at 4.50 where the exciting Kalellshan can defy a monstrous rise in the weights.

I agree about Salomina; unfortunately no British firms are giving a qoute for The Arc. From a German racing site (GaloppOnline.de) I think the attention is to supplement for The Arc if today's performance OK. The downside is that our judgements may be being influenced by a 'one-off', namely Danedream. If 25/1 or better was being offered for The Arc I think I would add Salomina to my wagers.

Just been looking at the ante-post market for The Arc, and frankly the prices are shockingly bad value. That said, a good run from Last Train in the Niel, and he'll be a fair bit shorter than the 20/1 currently on offer.

Been given a tip for Bugsbys Babe 66/1 3.10 Bath

Personally I can't find a reason to back it myself so will be having a small e/w dabble.

Can anyone enlighten me about the lack of national hunt racing, there is obviously a break, when do they start again?

cheers Oddy, AP will be back firing on all cylinders after a break then.
Looking at the 5.10 at Bath, Tony Carroll is running a horse called Leopard Hills, attracting some money and stable known to have a punt.

Orfevre won in an odd sort of fashion. Didn't really put the race to bed as expected but it was a funny pace. Joshua Tree ran really well again- that will pop up in a stayers event at a nice price sooner rather than later.

Still, Orfevre will come on for the run and will head to the Arc with a good run expected.

Now to see if Last Train has the tactical speed to win the second small-field trial.

Won't be winning the Arc, I wouldn't be worrying if I was Danedream or Nathaniel's connections. Had to see the whip 5 times in the last furlong and half to keep going forward in a Arc trial. Meandre needed to some cut in the ground but he ran a nice race...

Agreed Istabraq. Orfevre doesn't look an Arc winner so far. Did the job for todays purposes though.
