70 odd years, a decade of near-misses. From Henmans Heartbreaks with the likes of Pete Sampras and Goran, to Murrays multiple semi-final clashes with Nadal and Roddick, Britain now has a Wimbledon finalist. He meets one of the all-time greats of the sport, a true gentleman in Roger Federer and here's to hoping it is a classic. Enjoy it folks, enjoy it Andy, and good luck! Then my (NAP) of the day is an each-way at Silverstone. KIMI RAIKKONEN 20/1 is in a car that has looked consistently quick in race trim for a number of weeks now and looking at the field, I think Kimi has a tremendous chance of passing Massa (espec in the wet) , and Schumacher and Webber are unlikely to be hot on the pace from the beginning until the end and therefore providing Kimi gets a clean start off the line, I think he has to be well in the mix this weekend. To keep things on topic though for the forum, what a great ECLIPSE with Nathaniels stamina winning the day and perhaps more importantly, has potentially opened up an opportunity of the 'rematch' with Frankel in the Juddmonte at York. If Nathaniel is brave enough to take on Frankel, then hopefully other top connections will pit their best in with him over 10f too. Whilst Nathaniel is a mile and a half horse really, him winning over 10f today might be the injection the middle distance division needs to go and take Frankel on and make some real spectacles this summer. 1.30 Maisons Laffite (Group3): Moonwalk in Paris (NB) has the turn of foot to see these off and there ought to be a fair bit of clip, especially with Pisco Sour running, who will want this to be a test and might set a good gallop. I think Soumillon will hold him up for a very late run, and this time we hope he isn't too cocky
If they do meet it would have to be on a sound surface which would disadvantage Nathaniel. I can't see Frankel running over 10f on soft going.
Toppy, sorry but it's Win Only for a nap! If you fancy Kimi at 20/1, I'll put up Massa at 40/1 EW. He looked pretty decent in qualifying(even though he's been awful for a long while), but the race could be a real lottery. Anything could happen at the start, especially with Schumi keen to get amongst them. As for "fistpumpingI'vegotasourfacejustlikemymotherbreakyourteethandheartMurraymint" you'd have to be leaking grey matter not to have £150 on Federer to win £80. As for other sports today, the Tour De France has to take pride of place. What a fantastic event that is! No wonder millions turn out to watch it- it has everything.
Watch out for SYLVAIN CHAVANEL on stage 8 today Tam. It's a tough day and with a serious climb only 16k from the finish so a good attacking climber can break away fairly late in the race and not get caught. CHAVANEL did precisely that two years ago and lightning could strike twice. Boylesports have him seriously overpriced at 14-1. As for the nags. I fancy LA PANTERA ROSE 4.15 M Ras @ 8-1 today as unlike most in race it has conditions that suit.
COME ON FEDERER !!!!!!!!!!! THE KING OF THIS SPORT - However Laver would have destroyed his record if not for ****ty rules and he would confirm this if you asked him.E.O.S. . Also Fred Perry got lucky when defeating one of the young Evzonas in the final - Evzona led 6-0 6-2 before pulling up with a hamstring injury. For what it is worth I think CHICAGO is a cert in the last at Bellewston.
Treble for willie today, Deutchland at Bellestown and Sicillan Secret and Dani California at Limerick putting these with stickos and there you have it, betting and wining made simple stay frosty
Really cant be having Lotus with a cold track im afraid Toppy. All very weather dependant today so will be waiting to see whats forecast but any squeak of rain and Buttons your man. Had alot on less that 18 finishers so fingers crossed that happens. What a day for British sport.... for all those English patriots out there nice Button and Fed double!!! Alternative, Hamilton / Murray double!!
Come on, Ron. In whatever other event can you have guys riding like idiots up mountains; crashes, bruises, scrapes, cuts, broken limbs, and death; spectators camping out to see only a couple of live minutes of the race. On top of that, the winner can win his weight in beer, cheese, sausages, etc. As Sean Kelly said, he was presented with a cow by a Dutch farmer for winning a stage but, when he found out it would cost him three times what it was worth to transport it back to Ireland, he sold it back to the farmer! And what's this about "archery?" I thought you'd shot your bolt long ago!
please log in to view this image Oh that sort of everything. I've got 5 bolts in my leg now. Almost walking normally again. How are you these days Tam?
RV: Christ, didn't realise the one and only Evvy was that old! Plays tennis too? Well, let's see, not so good yesterday, Cityscape did not get the full 10f on the softish ground at Sandown, but ran well nevertheless. Today, sporting coupla bets: 14:45 Market Rasen - Indian Voyage 17:15 Market Rasen - Berea Court Best of luck today everyone!
Great way to start the thread Toppy, well done, certainly stimulated lots of comments and opinions. Watched the womens doubles last night after our lovely meal provided by Bet 365. That Sabrina Williams would squeeze a few blackheads! It was effortless for her. Now will Mr Murrey breeze past the fed, not a chance in hell although I hope I'm wrong. read a great article last week in which Ronnie O'Sullivan spoke about sports people who choked, a la, Jimmy White, England football, Henman and he thinks Murrey will be the same. I cant have a bet as I want a "British" victory. As for grand prix, Hamilton is a master in wet conditions so he has a squeek.
Personally i think Murrays reaction to making the final says it all really. Basically crying and emotional vs the Fed who was pumped and said he didnt care who he played as neither have been in a wimbledon final before. He was supremely confident and knows what it takes to win a final and hold it together. No way i can see Murray winning it im afraid.
LUCKY 15 AND E/W ACCY 25/1 - Forgotten Symphony 14:45 Market Rasen 16/1 - Northern Fling 15:30 Ayr 7/1 - Quiet Appeal NAP 16:00 Ayr 12/1 - Scholars Princess 17:50 Limerick
One small bet for me today in the shape of 3.30 Ayr Chiswick Bey 20/1. Don't have time for a write up. Definitely needs to bounce back from a poor start to this season but first time blinkers may rejuvenate him. He's now fallen to a mark of 82 which makes him dangerously well handicapped as he is 3lb below his win on handicap debut and 8lb below an excellent 2nd in a much better race. Shane B Kelly takes a handy 5lbs off and I think 20s is too big if bouncing back to his best.
