After a superbly bred horse (Mystical Power by Galileo out of Annie Power) took the opening race of the 2023 Galway festival, the final race of the festival today sees another NH horse bred in the purple - Aurora Vega is by Walk In The Park out of Quevega and that, of course, makes her a full sister to Facile Vega. She sauntered to victory under Patrick on her bumper debut at Sligo and bids to follow up here. You'd think she would be odds-on - but she isn't even favourite! That honour goes to stablemate (and Patrick's choice, one assumes) You Oughta Know who sauntered to victory on his bumper debut at Kilbeggan back in May. Should be a fascinating contest, not least to see whether Patrick chose the right one. Ah the agony of choice
Dreams Adozen in the opener at Chester (14:00), a Class-4 Handicap over an extended 1m4f on soft going. Course specialist Franny Norton rides the Kingman filly for the Charlie Johnston yard. 11/2 (Wm.Hill/BetVictor) best price at time of writing.
Briefly, in the Group-1 event at Deauville (15:25), Karl Burke's Spycatcher might catch the speedsters out with a late flourish? Probably wishful thinking but his top price at the moment is only 5/2, so the gelding is certainly not unfancied. Very competent and experienced French jockey, Maxime Guyon, rides for the Burke yard.
Ran fine race to finish second at 13/2 SP, but the even-money favourite was much too good for her at the finish.
