Fairyhouse 3.20 DESERT QUEEN 16/1 The focus of course is all on Harry Fry's market leader BITOFAPUZZLE, who I know is very popular and has run to a very high standard- most notably when a narrow 3rd in Cheltenhams mares hurdle last month. However, I'm going to back the second string here today who has really impressed me on just two starts in Britain, and who I think will relish the fairly testing conditions over in Ireland today. She is a big mare, a point to point winner upto 3m, and looks like a potential chaser of the future. She made her debut at Sandown and cruised clear- winning by 13L eased down from DOLORES DELIGHTFUL (rated 120), who got within 6L of Paul Nicholls very smart mare TARA POINT (rated 135). On a line through Dolores Delightful and Tara Point, the 13L eased down beating certainly puts Desert Queen at least around 135 and given the ease in which she won the potential to well exceed that and run to a 140+ mark here. That would put her bang in the frame and I'm hoping she might get to lead the race and look to dictate it from the front, because in testing conditions that play to her stamina, she could take a bit of passing if it became a battle. Her stablemate looks a front runner and also Noel Meades horse (but she won't enjoy the conditions and should drop away). The rest of them like to track the leaders looking through the form and I think they might all end up done for stamina if Frys two draw the sting from them up front as they both are definite stayers.
Looks a tricky puzzle to solve this race so like you I've gone for one at a price Rons Dream 50/1 could run a big race and well worth a small EW
15:25 Musselburgh - Lady Kashaan (Alan Swinbank's mare disappointed last season, but prior to this had decent form. Stoutly bred on sire's side, (both sire and grandsire showed a real ability to handle soft and heavy ground, as has Lady Kashaan), and, if fully fit after 163-day absence, could be a blot on the handicap, even with top weight?).
