Punting is easy Smoke, that's why millions of us do it. Whether we're any good at it though is another matter. :)

Gotta love a grinder's race. The Sussex National over 28 furlongs at Plumpton will be dour old affair. Mix in a clay based course and a bog track and the race becomes a true test of strength, even on the sharp course. When I checked out the race, I settled on Dawson City which on the form guide was about 8-1. But with the scratchings and some revised thinking, it looks as though it will start favourite. At the moment he's a 3-1 shot, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him start even shorter. At his last start, he looked a live chance when in front close to home, and was brought down by a riderless horse.

Venetia's bottom weight Gorgehous Lliege in the slog fest at Plumpton 2.5 length 4th in this last year and reoppposes the winner a stone better off. More letters than numbers in recent form but Venetia knows the time of day in races like this. Whilst we're on about slog fests it would appear to be the year of the red top judging by Stokes/Bairstow's massacre of the South Africans at Newlands this morning. Detractors of young Sam TD take heed!

Plumpton is fascinating today, I really can't work it out... Could be horrendous ground and those off low weights are for me.

    1:00 Oscars Journey @20/1 EW

Poor form recently, but one of very few who have really good course form. A return to some of his form from the spring would make him one to be with today and the yard are in better form now too. Prepped at Southwell for this like he was in the spring. Drift is a worry though.

Good enough start from L'ami Serge but could do with seeing him in a better race to see if he could be a threat in the Arkle.

Shaneshill's jumping under pressure was dreadful. Looks a bit small as well. Not very scopey.

Shaneshill clearly has some engine though if they brush up that jumping. Think Stone Hard can give Bellshill a fright here, EW to nothing.

He is small Bob yeah, if he'd tidy up his jumping he's a fair engine there. Looks like the jumping is just a bit unnatural to him but the second is a fair marker. He went off 7/1 for a G1 at Sandown on his last start.

L'ami looked very good and natural over the obstacles didn't he but can't see him getting his beloved heavy at Cheltenham so he's one to be wary off when the ground dries I'd say.
