3:30 – 10-Runner Handicap (Horses Rated 75 or Below) Top Rated: 72 Race Dynamics: Most runners have stronger All-Weather form rather than turf form. Pace Setup Likely leaders: Jazz Scene and Jesmond Dawn Other possible pace influencers: Power Of Gold, Soames Forsyte, and Stratocracy Expect Jazz Scene to set the tempo with others following closely. Course & Distance Winners Only runner with course form: Cosmos Raj (C&D winner in 2021) Distance winners: Power Of Gold, Soames Forsyte, Jesmond Dawn, Jazz Scene, Stratocracy, Paris Lights, and Candonomore Ground Preferences Best turf form on good ground: Cosmos Raj (6 wins from 22 runs) Strong good-to-firm records: Jesmond Dawn (2 wins, 2 places from 4 runs) and Stratocracy Contender Analysis Cosmos Raj – Strong Course Form, Handicapped Well Has been running on All-Weather through winter, showing improvement after dropping below a 70 rating. Placed in last two starts and returns to turf off a 4lb lower mark than his last turf run. Likes the ground, trip, and course, making him a strong contender despite his yard’s poor form. Power Of Gold – Lacks Wins but Has Ability Just one win from 19 career outings but returned with a solid effort at Pontefract, pressing the pace early. While he showed promise, the race setup was ideal for him, and today’s dynamics may not favor him. Soames Forsyte – Turf Record a Concern Proven performer on All-Weather, but struggles on turf. Last run at Leicester was average, though the horse just behind him that day has won since. Has been on the go all winter and seems to need a weak race to win. Likely prefers 7F. Jesmond Dawn – Ground Angle Play Flagged up due to strong good-to-firm record. His seasonal return at Musselburgh (5th place) saw him pushing a strong pace before fading. Relatively strong in the market, suggesting positive signs at home. If he gets the right trip, could be a major factor. Jazz Scene – Interesting Profile Stable switch, wind surgery, and now returns looking unexposed. Previously disappointing under Mark Prescott, possibly due to breathing issues. If the wind op proves successful, could make all like he did at Hamilton. One to watch at bigger odds. Stratocracy – Promising Redcar Effort Lightly raced and returned with a strong 3rd at Redcar, behind Havana Prince. The fourth-place finisher has since won at Beverley, so form looks solid. Steps back up to his ideal distance, likely to race prominently, making him a viable player. Paris Lights – Turf Strike Rate Worry Ran ahead of Power Of Gold at Pontefract, finishing well from midfield. On the go all winter, and others may have more improvement today. 0 from 13 on turf raises concerns. Candonomore – Needs to Prove More Returning off a break after a mixed 2023 campaign. Won a maiden on seasonal debut but dropped 9lb in the ratings afterward, reflecting inconsistency. Top weight today but yard is in good form—if he’s well backed, take note. Oberon Hill – Handicap Debut, Hard to Fancy Only three All-Weather runs plus one bumper—lacks form to suggest a strong challenge today. Easy to overlook. Commander Of Life – Turf Is the Big Question Would be a serious player if his All-Weather form transferred to turf. However, only 3 turf runs with no places, compared to 20 AW runs. Loves the distance, but ground conditions are unknown. Verdict With a competitive field and multiple angles, Jazz Scene looks worth a bet at double-figure prices. If the wind op has helped, he could make all and defy the odds. Jazz Scene @ 11/1 EW
15:30 Wetherby - Cosmos Raj e/w Class-5 Handicap over 1m on good ground Danny Tudhope rides for the David O'Meara yard. 13/2 (Wm.Hill/BetVictor)) best price on ATR site, at time of writing.
Nass, it seems Jason Watson rides mine, so with Danny Tudhope still available, this does not please me at all. Think you've got me on this race. Good luck, may the best horse win!
Ran a fine race to finish second at 15/2 SP. Jason Watson rode a good race and I don't think Danny Tudhope would have done any better. Just could not hold the late thrust of the surprise (to me) top-weight winner. Glad I made it an e/w choice.
