ASHKOUN 8-1 Fontwell 4:35 was in the process of running a very good race on handicap debut at Towcester last time but his tendency to jump left took him onto the steeplechase course about four from home where he even jumped one of the chase fences. Going left handed tomorrow at Fontwell should assist him and its a huge plus that Dickie Johnson takes over the steering responsibilities. He will be wise to the horses quirks. BET365 4-1+ race.

& BOOGIE LIFE at 5/2 is a monster of a price even with a penalty in the Kelso bumper. I expect her to be different gravy from these!

There is top class action on Sunday but you will need to look to France or Ireland if you want to find it.

At Longchamp, the Prix Saint-Alary (2:40) is one of the key trials for the Prix De Diane (French Oaks) and Freddie Head’s Pivotal filly Queen’s Jewel is likely to start a warm order against the German-bred filly Olorda and the Aga Khan’s Sea The Stars filly Varana and there are few grounds for thinking that she will not keep her unbeaten record but at odds-on with the PMU.

The Prix D’Ispahan (3:10) is effectively a match between Corine Barande-Barbe’s ageless gelding Cirrus Des Aigles (last year’s winner) and the pretender to his crown, Freddie Head’s five year old Solow. This does not look like one to get involved in as neither will pay anything on the PMU but Solow’s defeat of The Grey Gatsby in Meydan suggests he is the up-and-coming star and his trainer is no mug with older horses.

Over at The Curragh, the first point of interest is the Gallinule Stakes (2:45), where Derby candidate Giovanni Canaletto makes his seasonal bow in a race that Aidan O’Brien has farmed in the last decade. His principal rivals are Beresford Stakes runner-up Clonard Street (although that form does not look too hot now) and Ed Dunlop’s Prince Gagarin, routed here in search of easy ground after skipping Goodwood. The Ballydoyle horse needs to find at least ten pounds to collect this and win quite comfortably if he wants an outing to Epsom.

In the Tattersalls Gold Cup (3:20), the prize money may well be heading back across the Irish Sea with one of the three British contenders. Al Kazeem won this two years ago and chased home Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix Ganay last time but probably needs rain to assist him, whilst Postponed does not want rain and has something to find on the form. This all points to the Irish Champion Stakes winner The Grey Gatsby for whom the trip is ideal and he warmed up in Meydan chasing home Solow; however, he will be a short-priced favourite.

The Irish 1000 Guineas could have a big bearing on the Oaks betting. According to Aidan O’Brien, the favourite Found got tired on the soft ground on her seasonal debut when beaten by a 25/1 shot. So obviously rain would be a negative for the best horse in the race on the ratings. Arguably stablemate Kissed By Angels would be assisted by rain whilst the yard’s other runner, Qualify, has questions to answer after disappointing in the 1000 Guineas (as has Malabar). Many of the rest are held on various form lines (although Devonshire has been supplemented) whilst Bocca Baciata and Pleascach both drop in trip. The Aga Khan’s filly Raydara makes her seasonal bow but did beat Lucida last term and deserves respect. Stormfly or Jack Naylor could be the each-way bets in this but ultimately FOUND should win this if the rain stays away (min. odds 2/1).

Anybody looking for a banker bet should probably be looking at the last day of the Premier League. Hull City will be relegated if Newcastle win; otherwise, Hull must win. Presumably the crackpot Egyptian owner will not want to change the name to ‘Hull Tigers’ if they are in the Championship, so Manchester United to win at 5/4 and relegate them could suit everyone except him!

No rain forthcoming QM if you want to pull the trigger on Found tonight. 3% chance of precipitation around the Curragh area. Very warm today here and much the same tomorrow.

Giovanni looks an absolute shoo-in IF you could be confident in the stable form, but that's looks a bit dodgy to me. Hopefully he puts in a dazzling performance, the English Derby needs him. Crikey, the flat season needs him you could say. Never seen a season as uninspiring.

3:20 - Al Kazeem 11/4. I just love this horse, I can't not back him. The Grey Gatsby beat him quite easily at Leopardstown last year but Al Kazeem has had some good runs since behind Noble Mission and Cirrus Des Aigles, wasn't beat far on either occasion. Think he's ready for another go at The Grey Gatsby and could take him in this.

    Fontwell
4:00 - Fruity O'Rooney 5/1. The old boy had a decent run out last time, led for a lot of the race but probably done a bit too much too soon in the race and ran out of steam towards the end. Jamie Moore back on board and he knows how to get a tune out of him. He's been coming down in the weights and loves it round Fontwell (5 of his 8 career wins have been at Fontwell). Really fancy his chances.

Agree with Fruity O Rooney but have to oppose you in the other, I'm all about The Grey Gatsby. You're in cracking form so don't like to oppose you but The Grey Gatsby, I'd hope should won this comfortably

Couldn't agree more with Beefy. I think we'll see something really special from Giovanni Canalatto today. The sprinkling of 12-1 about him for the Derby will be slashed by 14:50 this afternoon. Get on early if you like him for the big race.

BET OF THE YEAR. CURRAGH 14:45 GIOVANNI CANALETTO.

BOCCA BACIATA 7/1 CURRAGH 3:55 - has looked a smart filly of late and her beating of Pleascach sits extremely well now. The drop back to 1 mile will be no problem and is In with a real chance of upsetting the O'Brien gravy train.

ALTON BAY 16/1 CURRAGH 5:00 - again reverts back to the flat after a pretty tame run at the Punchestown festival. Has to give weight a way to most of his rivals but if he's on a going day he could prove more than able to defy that burden. The booking of O'Brien would appear to be a positive and wi th 4 places paid can hopefully make the frame.

Elsewhere today I will be having a small double on Billy My Boy 11/4 Uttoxeter 4:45 and Boogie Life 5/2 Kelso 5:55

    Good luck all today.

For anybody tempted by a punt on two of the big Group 1 clashes today, Timeform’s European ratings currently have Cirrus Des Aigles and Solow on 129 (co top older horses along with Treve) whilst Al Kazeem and The Grey Gatsby are together on 128 with Postponed on 125.

Can see Ryan Moore having a good day today and have backed him in a treble on the 3 short OBrien horses starting at 2.45. Also in an accumulator on those 3 and THE GREY GATSBY.

On the home front and in the opener at Fontwell I'm on BILLY CONGO.
In the 5.05 at Fontwell NOMADIC WARRIOR has to overcome an absence of 1238 days but as the 20/1 outsider it is possible and I'm on him to.

Incredibly Ryan Moore is going for the Guineas 'Double' Double isn't he? He was won the English 2000 & 1000, the Irish 2000, and now is on the fav to complete the sweep. Has it been done before?

Anyway, it matters not because I think he will be beat and ironically I think J'OB can steer KISSED BY ANGELS 7/1 to glory. The pedigree is beautiful- Galileo-Lilllie Langtry, and she has made fabulous progress this season. She only made her debut at the end of April, shaping well when a bit green and a touch keen at Limerick, keeping on into 2nd place. However, the regard in which she is held seemed to be evident when on second start she was upped into Group 3 company, settling much better and kicking clear at Leopardstown, keeping on strongly with minimal encouragement.

It might need a helter skelter ride today but I think she might fly off a strong pace here, especially if J'OB can settle her in and around the mid division, and I can see her nailing them late. Whatever happens today, I am also very interested in her Oaks chances. Although her dam only went upto 1m, her own dam side had stamina and she was often very strong at the end of 1m.

This is a filly to keep on side IMO.
