Interesting to see VILLAGE MYSTIC end up with Mullins as I can't recall too many ending up there from the UK point to point scene!

The fact 'Rayvin Black' was 8/1 today in the English Champion Trial is a whole lot worse imo. For comparison's sake Arctic Fire is 8/1 in tomorrow's race. Make of that what you will <cheers>

It wasn't a Grade 1 so where is the comparison? You are missing the point but I guess we will never agree.

I wouldn't say we are afraid Ste, we simply don't have the ammunition.

    I think that's it in a nutshell.

I know it wasn't stick, The New One did win it after all! It does reflect the gulf in quality mind you, for a Grade 2 that race yesterday was embarassing in fairness. Some Champion Hurdle 'trial'.

One of the complaints people seem to have is that Mullins never runs his best horses against each other and here he's running the best 3 hurdlers in these Isles against each other. Yet people are still moaning FFS! Guess it's Willie's fault no one else can produce hurdlers as good, maybe that's the problem <doh>

Hopefully it's another cracking spectacle anyway. The Champion here normally produces memorable races, even if they are small fields <cheers>

That's correct, Drever, that's why I'm thankful we've at least got Cue Card. We certainly don't have much else at the moment?

Quite a Sunday thread this. Testicles, testicle receptacles, etc. Good grief. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

    For what its worth:

    1. The Clarence House Chase would have been an equally poor Grade 1 yesterday had Willie not sent UDS across. Without UDS it would have been a 4 runner affair with a former Champion Chaser who is not the force of old and 3 animals who are clearly short of Grade 1 standard.

    2. The New One yesterday took his career earnings to £722,287. For a yard with 107 horses in training that has had 42 winners this season he has been a tremendous servant and certainly helped pay plenty of bills. The Twister has had a pretty thin time of it in recent seasons and doesn't have a lot of big owners as patrons (the Moulds probably have most horses in his yard, but I wouldn't think more than a dozen and falling yearly?). Yes he is not a Champion Hurdle horse but ffs they can't all be. He was a very good Neptune winner and has been well placed to win 3/4 of a million quid. An admirable sort indeed.

Looking forward to seeing some top class animals in action at Leopardstown today <ok>

I wonder how the riding instructions for the three Mullins jockeys get delivered. Dont tell Ruby but you are gonna kick on three out and see if you can get him off the bit. Be wary of Danny as I think he may try to kick on three out and get you on the stretch.
Not at all wishing to disrespect the Mullins team and their horses but it surely cannot be seen as healthy for the sport to have one yard so dominant. Like watching Scotish Premier League football....before long nobody does!

Ruthless game training horses, the rising young trainers seem to attract the moneyed owners --- old dogs like the twister are left with the old type of owner, who inevitably die off - as for a horse paying other peoples bills -- some generous animal

I'd like to hear the pre-race discussions in the weighing room before one of these 24 runner maiden hurdles in Ireland where Ruby rides a 4/7 shot for Mullins:

"Now then lads, don't any of you be getting in Ruby's way out there" <laugh>

The dominance of trainers appears to be cyclical - mid 90's to early 2000's it was Pipe, then Nicholls/Henderson and now it's Mullins.

I dare say in a few years someone else will come to the fore.

Arctic Fire has some cracking form to his name at Leopardstown when chasing home the Fly and I'm looking forward to seeing him back at 2m and I really would love to see him at Cheltenham off a strong pace.

I take him at 9/1 ew first 2 places.
