Good morning all, Will be following Mark Johnston runners today with 3 in particular. 1.30 Wolves SILK LACE 11/4, his only runner here today, is that a tip in itself? 2.45 Red GOLD ZABEEL 11/10, will improve considerably from first start when slowly away but was making good headway when not getting a clear run and being eased. 3.25 Kem QUEEN GAMERAH 6/1, With a recent run under her belt she will have a fitness edge over the others. Good luck
SOUTHERN CAPE Leopardstown 2:40 You wont find a poor pedigree at any of the O'Briens and this one is a son of Galileo and Tiggy Wiggy. Full brother Year Of The Tiger is a winner over 7f. The "rumour" is that this one has been "gifted" to Donnacha to give him a real good 'un, we shall find out this afternoon. If the market speaks wisely then this one should bolt up. The opening show yesterday evening was 8/1 and that was soon cut to 9/2. Now the best you will get is 11/4.
His runner in the opener before, 'Shale', looks interesting too Stick, and at 12/1 maybe worth a punt putting in a double.
Morning all.. Bit of a drop in grade following Royal Ascot but I have decided to have a go at the 3.15pm race at Redcar. True Blue Moon 16/1 each way 4 places. Has had a pipe opener 20 days ago and didn't run too badly. Ground should be ok and the flat 7 furlongs should be within this one's compass as seemed to stay on over 6 furlongs last time. It has done nearly all its racing at 5 furlongs prior to joining the Easterby yard but maybe this is what is required. For a bit of fun have done a reverse forecast bet with True Mason so if you like a "True" reverse forecast... Good luck all.
16:40 Leopardstown - Santorini Sun e/w (Form certainly nothing to write home about, but finished quite well in a 1m handicap 12-days ago at this track on similar ground, so this extra quarter-mile might suit. 16/1 at time of writing with a couple of bookies, but I will probably have to take the 14/1 generally available.) Edit: Tough one!
An excellent debut from Southern Cape. He looked to have had it won but the Ger Lyons horse finished with a late rattle to nail him by half a length. Southern Cape will be short as a carrot next time he runs. Sandhurst ran a race full of promise in third place. Seamie Heffernan was on Handel and Sandhurst was in theory the second string at 12/1. It didn't pan out that way though and Seamie's mount was stone last although he did find trouble in running and was hampered. Sandhurst is a Galileo half brother to Washington DC, who was sired by Zoffany and you would think he will stay better than the decent sprinter. Southern Cape is the more imposing of the colts who were second and third today and you wouldn't have thought he had anything to do with his pocket rocket mother Tiggy Wiggy, I think both colts could be better long term prospects than winner Ides Of August. The trio were three lengths clear of the next home.
In the Blue Wind Stakes there is a weak looking field for a Group 3. Snow and Salsa come here after being first and second in a maiden last time. They will need a bit more now and Snow is worrying at 8/1, with Salsa actually the shorter of the pair. Dermot Weld's Galileo filly Amma Grace is open to improvement but Harrington's One Voice was within a nose of landing a Listed race last time and with a fitness edge she was my selection. Maybe just for once a Harrington horse can win for me. 5.15 Leopardstown One Voice 3/1
Nice one, Grendel, good shout! (Little bit unfortunate with my one fancy. Beaten 1/2-length by a 50/1 shot. Still, the 18/1 was fair compensation for the e/w, so mustn't grumble! )
