Hi All

On Saturday we saw THE most taking novice staying performance of the season by far. The horse in question was Mr Pipe's Kings Palace and he was Breathtaking with the big B! Albert Bartlett favourite, very justifiably so. On Sunday, Navan stages an intriguing little Grade One from which the leading Irish challenger for the Albert Bartlett should emerge. It lacks in numbers but looks a fascinating renewal all the same. Apache Stronghold done a few of us a nice turn the last day and is currently second favourite against the Cheltenham Bumper winner Mr Mullin's Briar Hill.

1.05 Navan Briar Hill 4/5 not a great price granted but I'm sure this will turn into a slog should the heavy rain hit and I'd expect Ruby to make all and run the sting out of Apache Stronghold's turn of foot. Briar's Hill looks like he'll really relish the step up trip with hopefully soft ground and I think he could end up challenging King's Palace at the head of the Albert Bartlett market. As I write this I notice Paddy Power have now slashed him into 1/2 (was Evens!) so the 4/5 Bet365 offer may look a real gift come tomorrow lunch time!!

You need fast fingers Gazman for these Mullins hotpots! Crazy flow of money for him being slashed everywhere, glad I snared Bet365's 4-5 as soon as they opened up!

Mentioned in my OP old boy <laugh> I'm hoping his Albert Bartlett odds shorten as dramatically post race... The Pipe horse looks tremendous though.

2.55 Carlisle The Friary - stays longer than the mother-in-law and revels in the mud - this should be right up his street.

This is the story of the NH season thus far. Another terribly disappointing line up. 6 days ago I was reviewing this race and salivating at the possible line up. Now I won't bother watching.

Approaching the end of day 3 at the WACA and Australia are effectively 300 for 1. Are there still any odds available on a 5-0 whitewash?

5/2 with Ladbrokes. Bell is 500/1 to win SPOTY tonight. I'd bet that the beeb haven't even got anyone on standby to present the award in Aus tonight.

    Roll on United.

Briar Hill takes on one runner. Racing will struggle long term if this trend continues.

Is a joke, Yesterday at Cheltenham had 2 races with just 4 runners each, and they had good prize money. I wonder why trainers are refusing to sent their horses to these races. Jumps road yesterday must have made a nice few quid for connections.

Maybe races with less than a certain amount of runners should be abandoned and the prize money redistributed.

Sometimes you have to count your lucky stars - I tried to slap a tenner on Kilvergan Boy in the 12.55 at Southwell but was a couple of seconds too late. Well done to the Cornwalls with Phoeinix Des Mottes - about time they enjoyed a winner again, that's their second of the season and will double their 2% win strike rate to a whopping 4%

Prize money for the Grade 1 Navan Hurdle:

    1st €45,500.00 2nd €13,300.00 3rd €6,300.00 4th €2,100.00

Really beggars belief that only 2 go to post

Even more ridiculous when you think the two owners who ran don't need the money. The Gigg and the Wylie's.
