16:30 Exeter : Belami Des Pictons (Ran LTO 57-days ago at Ascot under almost identical ground conditions and distance. Rarely use the tracker facility but I did after that race, as I felt the gelding was never put into the race with a chance, although he did make a mistake at the very first fence. Will give him another chance as he's quite capable of running a good race in this Class-2 Veterans' Handicap Chase.. Charlie Deutsch takes the ride as usual for the Venetia Williams yard. At time of writing 9/2 was the top price with Bet365, but 7/2 is the most general best price).
Id imagine the amount of rain that’s about down here that the ground will be heavy by the start of race time.
That would be my fear of betting on the card. Will watch the first race to see what it looks like and expect it to get worse throughout the card.
Ah, could only go by the forecast when I posted in the early hours today. From what Grecian Mick says ground could well be soft/heavy by race time. Think BDP will handle this ground however, but await the first race with interest too.
Had a minor chuckle, just now, when I noticed that this afternoon's Pertemps Qualifier (3.30 Exeter) had been reduced to just 6 runners! Mildly humourous, I thought. No joke though re the effect Mother Nature has had on the old going at Exeter today. Some notable NRs, I'm afraid.
Hi Pilgrim. An old favourite of yours, Tout Est Permis goes in the card opening Cross Country chase today. An interesting horse to this sphere considering he had/has a touch of class about him.
Hi STH. Yes, there he is in my avatar. I just watched the race and he didn't do too bad considering it was his first time in a Cross Country. The horse is getting dizzy from all the switching between hurdles, chase and now the CC.
Exeter looks both dreadful and not too bad at the same time. They were kicking up the ground but finished in decent style. It’s going to be horrible later on churned up ground.
An encouraging run, and for sure they are trying him highly over all the disciplines lately. Looks to have a bit of an appetite for it still bit he's not far off needing to be put out to grass either and perhaps a long retirement when still in one piece.
Some fine performance from Young Dev there. Picked up like he was only put in at the last there and for a relatively old race horse, he has been some animal to have under an ownership. Always gives his best, great ride and win for all involved. I suspect that will be him forced back over fences now once the handicapper has his say.
