    4.15 Curragh

    One Spirit 40/1

I think this is an absolutely ridiculous price and is perhaps this because of the unfashionable nature of her trainer. One Spirit performed very nicely on her first 3 starts. After an impressive debut performance when she finished 0.25L behind Laughing, she won impressively on his 2nd start at Leopardstown back in June and was perhaps quite unlucky to finish an unlucky 3rd in a listed race at the Curragh behind Pirateer. Pirateer had beaten subsequent Irish Derby Winner Treasure Beach in a nursery with only a 5lb swing so the form of that looks fine. Two starts back One Spirit met a lot of trouble in running and although she never troubled the winner Bible Belt who has subsequently won again since and is favourite for a Group 2 event tomorrow.LTO One Spirit ran a very good race, again in a Listed contest won by Bible Belt. After racing just in behind the pace, One Spirit hit the front 2f out travelling very comfortably. However, she faded drastically in the final furlong and I think she just didn't get home over the 1m 1f trip. She may have also idled a bit in front but I think the former is more correct as she eventually finished 6L back in 8th. She's got to reverse form with the 2nd that day Wild Wind but considering she stopped so drastically I think the drop back to 1m will suit her much better.

Tomorrow is definitely a tough task as she is stepped up to Group class and faces the excellent Cityscape who has already won a Group 3 races by 7L as well as finishing 2nd in a Group 2 behind Dick Turpin and a fantastic 3rd in a Group 1 behind Canford Cliffs and Goldikova. However, she disappointed LTO in Deauville and I think odds on is too short for him. One Spirits regular jockey Niall Mccullough is in the saddle tomorrow and if One Spirit is still progressing, which is extremely likely as she has only had 5 runs to date, then she could definitely play a part in the finish tomorrow. The soft ground is a bit of an unknown and a risk but I think the price negates the risk and I'm praying that all 8 go to post tomorrow and One Spirit can at least run into one of those places.

    4.35 Listowel

    Russian War FC 5/1

Honestly will be shocked if the 5/1 forecast is available tomorrow and if so I will be having a nice bet. Russian War is clearly a very talented horse and although he made quite a disappointing chase debut behind an relatively poor exposed animal. That contest was over 3m 2f and although he travelled supremely well,Paul Carberry is a master of switching horses off and I think it is certainly debatable that he didn't stay the trip. He's back down to a far more suitable 2m4f tomorrow and I am very eager to see how he does now. He won't have any excuses tomorrow and I really hope he puts in an emphatic display tomorrow and goes on to much better things.

ROTO I'll be having a dabble on Russian War, I think De Valira will be popular and may help keep the price for Russian War up. I think RW is the superior animal and after the "schooling session" last time I expect Carberry to make no mistake over the shorter trip <ok>

Just a word of warning for anyone fancing the Mullins horse in the bumper - Robin Angevin - he may well go close BUT at the likely cramped odds I wouldn't touch him. Had my fingers burnt twice by this one and he isn't one to be taking short prices about. Travels well enough but for me doesn't put it all in at the business end and has been exposed by more resolute animals. I think Nina Carberry on the Charlie Swan horse will give him plenty to think about and just wanted to warn off anyone who might think this is a Mullins "good thing".

    5.10 Listowel PISTOL JACK (NAP)

Given a very cute ride last time to only win by a length but in truth was far superior to the opposition that day and is raised 7lbs to 110 for this race. That mark still looks attractive and with few miles on the clock for a 9 year old Pistol Jack looks on an upward curve and his winning run can continue a while yet <ok>

First and foremost- let us remember those who lost their lives 10 years ago today on September 11, 2001.

Whether you believe the whole story or not, thousands of innocent people lost their lives that day, and that should never be forgotten.

As for the racing, one horse stood out:

    MUBTADI 7/1 (NAP) -(4.10 Goodwood)

This is a quite astonishing price in my book because this is a horse so much better than the form figures suggest. On his return this season, he finished 3L 5th behind BAHCELI (2nd off 92 when 2.5 lengths behind SAGRAMOR next time out) , ZAIN SHAMARDAL was in 2nd that day and has since got within a neck of CLUB OCEANIC (winner off 97 this week at Doncaster).

He also finished a head 2nd to CHEF at Doncaster in June, and Chef has since been beaten half a length by NEEBRAAS in Listed company off a mark of 102.

Kieron O' Neil takes a handy 3lb off, and so whilst his official rating is 82, he is essentially running off 79 tomorrow, which given his best efforts this season behind some very high class handicappers, 7/1 looks a very big price indeed.

He has been running in class 2 handicaps all summer and in a class 4 today should take all the beating.

Poignant Topper and does put a lot into perspective.Well said.

Just back from trying to chap up Oddy's left overs at a right riotous Swwwwedish birthday bash!..Btw what was Nass doing with that mic after the Chesterfield win!! <laugh>

Anyhow, buoyed as I am by the fruits of La Rioja,I suggest Bewitched (NAP) as a smashin g bet tomorrow in the 5.20 at The Currragh.Cracking filly who went wrong at Ascot before finding ground conditions against her at Haydock and meeting trouble in running.

JM described her as much better than G3 class when she coasted home at the Curragh last year. Her Ascot win was class laden and she meets nothing of any consequence tomorrow.Soft ground is no barrier and the 9/4 on offer is mugging sprogs in the playground.

Bible Belt in the 3.35 is almost as appealing.Fast improving, and whilst Banimpire is hugely respected she will have to possess the constitution of David Hasslehoff(love the Hoff, any celeb who wets himself at the airport is ok by me) to be competitive here.

5/2 with PP is a steal..I took that earlier, not sure still on offer, but 'owt above 2's is value.

Rarely do two in a week, never mind a day,but these are unmissable.

    Felices fiestas a todos.

TopClass lets also not forget the thousands of innocent civilians who have died as a result of US miltary operations in Afghanistan and Iraq (and probably many more we'll never know about) in their "war on terror" ...............................

    Two today

5.15 Oneladyowner - In great form and I really liked the performance last time out at this tricky course. He seemed to enjoy the softer ground that day and he gets cut again today, this to me looks better than a normal 7/2 chance and therefore is a good bet for me today. NAP

3.35 Salient - I just think this one is in with a great chance in a race that could be run to suit. He likes to make all and there is little pace in this race in opposition and I thought his Sandown effort was very creditable two days ago. The worry is that he may be taken on early but I doubt it and at 10/1 is a fair EW bet.

Two singles and a small double.
