The request has been made by Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck. With a bit of luck the fans from the other 19 PL clubs will pressurise their own Boards not to make such an obscene gesture.

Just shows how so far removed Buck and people of a similar ilk are from the average football fan.

    Its grotesque.

I'm guessing that the argument is that there has been a significant hike in the amount of money being generated by the premier league under his tenure which the clubs have benefitted from.

It's all the old boys club looking after their own of course though. My estimation of Mike would go up a little if he gave them the finger.

I see he has accepted the offer whilst making a point of thanking them slags over at Sky. And the best bit is that he isn't actually leaving by the sounds of it, he's to be retained in an "advisory" capacity.

I'm in the wrong ****ing job me like !

Not only does he get £5m they are also retaining him as a consultant meaning he'll command even more fees.

Seems a funny thing to get worked up about. The payment is voluntary. The amount is insignificant for even clubs like ours. While I can understand being bitter and envious, there are much more important things in life, football and NUFC to get worked up about than this.

Depends how you look at it. That money could pay for 4-5 people to work in our marketing department for 1 year and improve our static commercial revenue or pay the costs of our youth team competing in a few international tournaments each year.

I would hope that he will see the appalling publicity this is getting the Premier League and him and use the money to set up a charitable foundation supporting football for underpriviledged kids or the like.
