He was a great player in his younger days, but he is what I imagine wall paper paste to sound like if it could talk.

    He was fast.

I was in my youth obsessed with following his career as he came through just a couple years younger than never but.....

He wasn't a great player. His general game was decent but not amazing, once his pace dropped he was not all that.

Most of all I felt he didn't love playing the game really. I think he liked the money

I should rephrase he was an exciting player when he was young.

I wish he'd stop saying "almost" all the time when it's completely inappropriate. As in " For me, the defender has to almost get across there and block him"
Never noticed? You will now, and can join me in a new misery.

He has improved slightly. In the past I used to want to kill myself listening to him, nowadays I'd content myself with killing him.

It always creeps me out seeing pictures of Michael Owen. There are certain angles of him he looks too much like a short brown eyed version of myself.

    Extremely.

I distinctly remember the huge cheer when his new contract was signed.

    Effective yes. Great player no.

He had bags of pace and he could finish. Very little else to his game which is why he struggled later in his career once injuries took their toll and he slowed down.

    Sums it up well.

If we look at shearer for example injuries slowed him right down but he had enough to be effective if never the same player.

Owen I think never really had enough desire to find another way.

think you lot are being slightly harsh on owen.

his main attribute was pace and when he lost that was never the same player, but shearers attribute was his strength ( ie thug) he wouldn't have got away with half the things he did in todays game, not saying he was that bad, but nowdays you get penalized for every silly thing, and the goalies are so protected its ridiculous,

During the game Thursday when Origi scored he started saying 'I was screaming chip him!'

You are the co commentator Michael we can LITERALLY HEAR YOU AND YOU DIDN'T

"If Michael Owen wasn't a bad commentator he'd be a good commentator" - Michael Owen

He bangs on about goalkeeping a lot too. Don't get it, you were a striker Michael.

He hates goalkeepers because they kept getting in his way.

Seriously, I thought Owen was a really good player for us and I think pulling him apart in this way is a bit churlish.
However, we're talking about him as a pundit and in that way he's totally rank. I just hate listening to his whining voice saying nothing of interest.
Tbh, he's just one of the worst of a bad lot for me. Why Sky/BT/Beeb think we want to listen to the vacuous meanderings of ex footballers is beyond me.
