Who would be in your wish list and what areas do you think we need to buy for. All of our keepers are out of and the only 1 I would bother to keep is Heaton, Not sure on Carey as im hearing better things about our young American keeper. So I think we will need to buy a back up, That's being Yeovils Marek Stech We will be losing a lot of CB's, Carey, Nyatanga (would try and keep), Wilson, Holloway. Leaves us with just Fonts. McFadzean will be my first target, Despite not being fit for much of last season I really think he will be a great player for us, Especially at league 1 level. RM will be incredible weak when Adomah goes so we will need someone in. Baxendale of Wallall would be a great buy. CM with Reid coming through and Kelly already here I think we only need one more maybe 2 and it we will be alright. Alan Judge from Notts County Another one would be Pack from Cheltenham. Upfront if we can keep baldock and davies then they will be our 2 starts. Taylor as back up. If we could then I would love to see Tom Pope snapped up he really would compete with SB and SD for a starting place. So my dream team for league 1 would look like this Heaton Moloney McFazdean Fontaine Cunningham Pack Kelly Judge Baxendale Baldock Davies Stech Nyatanga Anderson Reid Ajala Taylor Pope
I can see Davies leaving unfortunately, but Baldock and Taylor should score shed loads if they get the service at L1 level
Taylor and Baldock would be my starting two next year, they could be Turner and Taylor all over again.
I really do not see the facination will Baldock and Davies, rather have kept pitman myself. Now if wiz forcast is correct Leroy would be a cracking player to fire us back up. Davies and Baldock have not done if for me. Baldock lightweight Davies to slow.
Shiny, I'm sorry but I believe you are living in a fool's paradise. Five new signings all of whom are within contract at their present clubs will not be cheap and will eat into a budget for salaries and transfer fees of approximately £5 million. This is 60% of £8 million which is probably the highest turnover we can hope for, with probably £3 million sponsorship coming from SL's companies for naming rights on the stadium etc. Gate receipts will be for an average 10,000 crowd (if we are lucky) at £20 per person a bit under £5 million. As an example, a squad of 23, 3 keepers and two for every other position, will mean an average salary of around £4,000 per week or £215,000 per annum Now deduct at least £1.5 million for the five players you want to sign and this leaves £3.5 million for wages. Also deduct the salaries for Davies, Baldock if they stay - I'm guessing they are on at least £10,000 a week for next season - which equals another £1 million. I won't carry on and guess what Cunningham, Moloney and Kelly are on. We are then left with 2.5 million to pay for 21 other full time pros giving an average salary of £120,000 per annum. Is that a top annual salary in League One? Or one that will get just a very average pro? The figures just don't stack up. Walsall, Yeovil, Notts County, Port Vale and Crawley will not be giving us the five players you want for FREE! We are Bristol City and every other club in the Football league knows we pay high fees to recruit players and give them away at the end of their contract. so what will Crawley want for McFadzean Shiny? £500,000 or £1 million? And Port Vale for a guy who has got 33 goals this season? Anyway Stech could be playing for a Championship club next season so why would he want to come here? Nyatanga is out of contract; do we really want him to stay - he's had four years here as a very well paid reserve and has not improved much since he arrived. I really do hope Fontaine manages to find another club as he is one I do not trust to start the recovery. It may sound stupid to some but I would rather go to League Two with a young promising squad than keep any of those who have been here for the last four/five years - I exclude this season's signings both by McInnes and O'Driscoll. That's my take on the harsh realities in front of us next season; I don't believe that Adomah, Davies and Baldock will be with us. And Cunningham could also decide that he is better than League One standard. It's going to be a very rough ride through this summer and on into next season! PS; Dylan Castanheira is playing for us with a Portuguese passport; he is the son of Portuguese parents.
Not very far from the real truth cidered and, like you, I strongly believe that next season could be a bad eye opener for many supporters who think it will be a walk in the park because we are, after all, Bristol City. It is precisely because of who we are that we have created this mess, and if we stay with the same old way of thinking that we are better than the rest we could be even more trouble than anybody could possibly imagine.
I also don't think that the word "BUY" will be in our vocabulary next season based on the financial mess created by buying poorly in the first place.
I don't really care who the new players are by name, I just want then to have some heart, fight and passion unlike almost all of this (and last) seasons squad. If it takes 2 years to get back up but clears out all the deadwood who have been here on long well paid contracts but not improved the team in the slightest then I will take that. Without significant change we will be no better off, if we keep the same squad for the coming season and they get promoted, we already know they are not good enough collectively for the Championship so we would only be struggling again.
Transfer fees will not be as big an issue as wages i don't think we can afford Judge (and he will probably want to go to the Championship) We need a big centre half - my worry about McFazdean is that he has not played for 6 months
McFazdean might of been a good player when we went in for him January but he has had a mystery virus and I don't think we should be taking a chance on him. I didn't know anything about him before as I never bothered with teams down below us. But I don't want us to gamble on unfit players, I know Crawley said 10 longer he could of played again this season but it's still a gamble. Like a few others on here, it must be an age thing, but we won't be a force next year (hope I'm wrong) but mid table will be our best hope, clear out the rest of the deadwood and start again the season after. If we go into this league thinking it is going to be easy, I can predict some SoD out threads etc. Said it before we need to be patient with the rebuild.
He would be a good buy ROD. Heard nothing but good things about him and that wont go because of Flu. Apparently one of the best CB's in the league
Since Cheltenham didn't go up.. what about our apparent transfer target Marlon Pack? Tough, strong tackling midfielder.. Will replace Elliot, he'll slot in nicely with Liam Kelly in our midfield
So do I, but from what I hear of him he's not a creative midfielder.. just a strong CDM who will protect the back four.. Liam Kelly does this job at the moment.. What we need is a midfielder who will actually be a bit creative, make deep runs with the ball..
I think that a major factor that people are overlooking is that despite Cider's probably pretty accurate assessment, WE WILL STILL BE CONSIDERABLY BETTER PLACED than most of the teams in League One because I suspect that most would kill for a budget of £8m. We won't be the only ones to have to savagely prune this summer and there will be a LOT of unemployed players out there, not all of whom will be duffers but probably just too expensive for their clubs to keep on their present wages. They may refuse a cut in salary but everything is relative and someone elses too much may be within our structure. The reality is that we we will have a considerably younger and inexperienced squad which will have pros and cons. On one hand, we will have the cockiness and arrogance of youth who are not tainted by the previous goings on at the club. You only have to look at Bobby Reid's reaction when he scored to see that he isn't lacking in confidence and a team comprising mostly this type of player is half the battle. The downside is that they could outsmarted by more experienced players which is why SoD sent the lads out to get a taste of what they can expect to negate this. The main thing that I am happy about is that our youngsters play a proper band of football and with SoD's guidance, I am optomistic that we will do well next year although a good start is CRUCIAL for the building of confidence which is what will create the momentum required
Possibly, but he might be a bit too weak for league 1, we'll see though.. certainly would look to see him and others play next season
Don't forget Prem that £8 million is only my guestimate of total turnover relevant to FFP. Academy costs are not included. So 60% allowed for wages etc, including the manager and coaching staff, kit man, office staff etc, gives us approx £4,800,000. So just over £4 million for playing staff after the rest above are paid.
