1) The Liverpool captain is not moving to Sunderland. 2) Fabio Carvalho has won this league and has proven he's Premier League calibre. He's not coming to the Championship. 3) Amad coming back to Sunderland would be a waste of time for his development. He needs to prove himself at a higher level. 4) Ellis Simms scored 1 goal every 1.8 games for us. That equates to 25 goals in a full season if he played every game. He's 22. Talking about targeting someone much better than him is not realistic. We might gamble and find someone better than him (or they could flop) but we won't be signing someone proven to be better than him. People are going to be very disappointed if this is what expectations are now.
I agree with this - my point re: Simms was more that we shouldn’t just be going to him by default. Which I’m sure we won’t be. And as I’ve said before, I agree re Amad and think there’s close to zero chance. But the counter argument with Amad is that Utd might want him at a team near the top of a league. There’s no point them loaning him to a team that aren’t creating lots of opportunities for him to do what he needs to do. Which is why I think a lower level prem option isn’t as attractive as it might be. I can however see him going abroad on loan. Maybe Italy for example.
Aye hendo is def not coming back this summer Carvahlo is unlikely but we should 100% be enquiring. Our unique selling point is the pressure that players are under each game, exactly the same pressure he would face at Liverpool so we would be an attractive option for them n him - again i think its unlikely but you never know. Id put amad into that camp as well, we play a style of play thats similar to the top teams so you could make a case to say he would be better playing for us than say an everton Simms is an interesting one, i didnt think he was great when with us - poor movement n link/hold up play was poor however he has the raw attributes youd look for in a CF so again would be a decent prospect. There will def be better out there, there will also be a lot worse, but if it was me id sign him if the price was right then aim to sign someone who was better as the main striker with simms as a back up (potentially 3rd choice if stewart stays) I know a few have mentioned longstaff, decent finisher but his all round game would struggle in the championship. 100% if we were in L1 but not now thwt we will be aiming for promotion to.the PL
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/22421149/blackpool-jerry-yates-transfer-wba-luton-coventry-ipswich/ They want 4m. Can't see us paying that for a 26 year old. Apparently one Clun has had a bid rejected for 2.5m.
Surely Hendo is more likely than Carvalho? One is looking to take the next step in his career, the other is very much on a downwards trajectory. I don't doubt Hendo is still good enough for a bottom-half Prem team. But he's a Sunderland lad through and through. I do think the idea of potentially leading his hometown club back to the Prem in the twilight years of his career will have a level of sentimental pull.
He's still got a lot to offer Liverpool, apparently him n milner are the ones that set the standard at Liverpool in terms of hard work attitude etc so cant see klopp wanting to lose both in the same summer. Plus hendo will want to play in nxt summers euros n to get into the squad n team he needs to be playing at the highest possible level. Next summer though i think we would have a good chance to get him Carvalho def doesnt seem likely as rumours are hes moving abroad this summer on a perm deal
