Perhaps the only thing I'll praise Pep for is that while he spends a king's ransom wherever he goes, he seldom buys a dud.
This has given City an edge more than anything else in recent years. Whereas United and Chelsea have similar net spends if not greater, look at how much of that money was pissed up a wall. City on the other hand have done really well - only Kalvin Phillips and Benjamin Mendy stand out as big money wastes across a period stretching back over 6 years, and the latter was more down to him being a bit of a Don Juan than his ability on the pitch.
The only team to really threaten them in recent seasons was Liverpool, surprise surprise, after a sustained period of successful signings in the market. That threat has faded as City continue to strike gold but Pool signed duds.
No idea what gives him such an edge tbh. Definitely helps that they have his entire backroom team from Barca days in place to help in selecting transfer targets. But their success rate since he joined is freakishly good.
