I said I would give the club a until the end of July to judge them in the transfer market and to be honest I'm not sure what to make of it , it depends what mood I'm in but over all the I think the club has done well they have strengthened the midfield well , Cairny is a great buy, Pringle on a free is great business and O'Hara looks a great pick up been our best player in pre season. Forwards are kok didn't really need upgrading though we need to try and sit down with Mitroglu and get a season out of him. Although overall it looks good and I should be pleased it's the defence that confuses me and disappoints me to not get in a centre back our most needed position before the season starts is ridiculous, yrs Garbutt has come in to strengthen left back but we conceded the most goals last season other than Blackpool and from that useless defence we have lost Turner and Husband and brought in Garbutt this disappoint me's Summer transfers over all 7.5 out of ten Summer transfers in defence (our biggest priority) 5 out of ten
At least they have clearly been pursuing centre backs, even if they've not sealed the deal on anyone yet. I like the players we've brought in, but I think we also need a RM (in addition to the DM & CB generally highlighted). I don't think we'll make the most of Cairney if we strand him out on the right hand side.
As Suly said, the Club in pursuing CBs obviously recognise how weak we are there. There are a number of confcting rumours around today as to whether we've at long last landed Lewis Dunk or if we've lost him to Ipswich. That priority aside, we really need a DM as well. O'Hara did a decent job picking up the ball from the back four today but there was nobody in front of them defending. Especially in the second half Palace found it so easy to find space in front of our box. The other thing we are desparately missing on the field is a leader.
Latest news is Brighton have it seems refused a 4.5m offer from us for Dunk, apparently they are considering a 5m+ offer from Ipswich, surely we could match this offer for one who appears could to be a future star.
I cannot tell you how angry I am at the club tonight with the failure to strengthen our defence, the injury has to Garbutt has brought it hone that despite a whole off season we are going to start the season with a weaker defence than last year, a year that saw us concede an incredible 83 goals more than anyone else other than Blackpool who had a reason for being s@@t. Hutchinson is weaker than Turner and Viser/Kavanagh are weaker than Husband. If we lose to cardiff and voiced more than two I want an explanation from somebody at the club. The only thing to cheer me up would the announcement of Gayle and Dunk signing before Saturday
I don't think this is Kit's fault at all. He passes on his list of players he needs (Dunk, Tarkowski, Lees) and it's Rigg and Ali Mac who go out and try make the deals happen. If anyone is to blame for not having the Defenders in at this stage, it's possibly them. We've been making offers since very early on in the window so Kit has done his part in my eyes. I'm sure these negotiations are a lot more complex than we know and it's not just a case of if you want him go get him. I saw a report the other day that we have to wait for Brighton to get a new defender before they will sell Dunk. If that means waiting an extra couple of weeks to get the right man then so be it. I'd rather get the right player late than the wrong player early so I'm willing to give until the end of the window before making my judgement.
