Just normal part of negotiations tbh. Club A says they want £25m, so Club B offers £15m, then £17m trying to test the water. Club A have held firm, so he won't go for less. But if a club knows a buyer will pay the first price they demand, they will simply pull an inflated figure out of the air. It's teams like City and Chelsea who have been mugged off because they just pay whatever they are told to pay, but that also puts every other club at a disadvantage, because it's skewed the whole transfer market.
Problem is... Many clubs other than Chelsea and City are starting to pay whatever they’re told. In fact I would say we’re one of the only clubs left who try to get a bargain out of every signing.
I could understand that if we were getting him at a reduced cost, but we're not. If what we were going to do was offer the £25m they requested at the beginning, he could have been bedded into the side and on pre-season in the USA. Not just that, but the feelings of negativity surrounding Arsenal at the moment would not be as prominent. The simple fact is, we aren't in a position to be wasting time with back-and-forth negotiations because of how desperate our need is for fresh blood. The season is like 3 weeks away and we only have Martinelli to show for it. This time last year, we had most or all of our signings. It has been very poor showing so far.
Well, well, well. The £25m bid for Tierney has been rejected because Celtic aren't happy with the structure of the payments. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11670/11763265/celtic-reject-arsenals-25m-kieran-tierney-bid Like I said, we do not have time for this nonsense. Either put in a serious bid, matching what they want, or move on to other targets. We are wasting time.
I get it that the club will test the water first, but yes I agree our window so far has been terrible.
That derisory £40m bid for Zaha is causing more damage than you anticipated. Not only did it make you a laughingstock but it also alerted other clubs to the fact that you have at least £40m to spend, and that the bulk of that can be spent up front. Word on the vine is this is exactly the current situation with Saliba. We didn't 'outbid' you per se (beyond a couple of added appearance-based bonuses), but we did offer St Etienne a similar amount just promising far more of it up front. And so as a result you have had to match that approach (apparently you have and it is now down to the player) as St Etienne know that you can afford to do so, as you (stupidly) revealed most of your hand with your zaha 'bid'.
Well I think its clear the 45m budget rumours are true. Clearly what they are trying to do is bring in a LB,CM, WF and at least one CB. To do this they have to try and strike deals where they can pay the majority of the transfer at a later date thus keeping within the current budget.
Current rumour round up... William Saliba - CB. Arsenal had to up our initial bid to match Tottenhams. Sources claiming he still prefers Arsenal move. Dani Alvez - RB. Wage demands the only Issue. Great backup/competition for Bellerin. Out of contract so a 'free transfer'. Kieren Tierney - LB. Celtic playing hardball. I think we should be able to get this one done. Zaha or Emerson Suarez - LWF. Possibly Edu's first signing. Looks like a good talent. For £30 million could well be better value than Zaha. Dani Ceballos - CM. Much like Saliba this kid has immense potential and much like Saliba Tottenham are also trying to sign him. Really impressive talent - rumours are a 1 year loan deal with an option to buy. Koscielny - will he be here next Season? Well I like that we are actually chasing TOP young players. The budget/financial restriction are however pretty ridiculous. Also a little concerned we still have the likes of Mustafi/Elneny etc.. on the books. Next Seasons line up to look something like this... ----------------------------Leno------------------------------- Alvez/Bell-----Sokratis------Holding---------Tierney --------------------------Torreira---------------------------- -----Nelson-----------Ceballos----------Soares-------- --------------Aubmeyang------Lacazette--------------- ----------------------------Leno------------------------------- Alvez/Bell-----Sokratis------Holding---------Tierney ----------------Ceballos-------Xhaka--------------------- Soares/Zaha------------Ozil--------------Aubameyang --------------------------Lacazette-------------------------- ----------------------------Leno------------------------------- ---------Chambers----Sokratis-----Holding------------- Alvez----------Ceballos--------Xhak/Tor-------Tierney -------Aubam--------Lacazette--------Zaha-------------
Looks like the Ceballos loan deal is almost complete! Quite a promising player who could be a good stop gap...
Mangala at City has been told he can leave for free. worth a punt? Surely he cant be worse than what we have at CB?
And preventing from going to Spurs. If Saliba joins us too, it will be a good show that top players are picking us over the ****ers up the road.
If both Saliba and Ceballos choose Arsenal over Spurs, it would show that we are still a huge name in football and an attractive proposition to many worldwide. A few years of Spurs finishing ahead of us and a new stadium won't change that.
Taking a young small midfielder on loan from one of the big Spanish clubs who they recently bought but hasn't done amazingly? Haven't tried that before so defs give it a go...
Speak to most Madrid fans and they will tell you Ceballos is very talented. He is young, needs game time and needs to develop, which is why he (looks like) joining us. It's also why it's only a loan deal because Zidane has him in future plans. I don't know whether he will make it at Madrid or not - plenty have tried and failed - but people want him to be given a chance, so at least that's something. Given our limited budget too, it could prove to be shrewd business for the year. We'll see how it pans out if it happens, but I want to be positive. Every signing is a risk at the end of the day.
Some of the Spurs fans on here would have you believe that Spurs have left Arsenal in their wake. They've finished above yes, but they have still won **** all. We even managed to win a few FA cups during that time too. Arsenal are a much bigger club than Spurs and a small blip in our illustrious history doesn't change that. Look at Liverpool and Utd, they have both had lean years and times of rebuilding, same for Arsenal now.
