If we look at all the most successful title winning PL teams including our own, you'll find a mixture of larger and smaller players. There is no denying that the PL is the most physical and toughest leagues in Europe. It is also not a mystery that after we lost Vieira that our midfield struggled to cope with physically imposing teams. But we also had a powerhouse central defence to fall back on back in the days. Can anyone name a PL title winning team that had small players in both defence and midfield? I can't think of any. I wished that Wenger would go back to his previously successful model. I can see Emery going back to what we used to have and mix skill with power and pace.
Torreira looks like a cross between Kante and Carzola. Not as physically strong as Kante but does all the work running and intercepting. He's also great at carrying the ball forward. Next to a holding player he would be great. --------Torreira---Nzonzi------- -------------Ramsey-------------- Mkhi-------Aubam---------Ozil
I like that blend in midfield and I can see Ramsey excel in that kind if role which he has in Wales. He is a naturally forward attacking player and doesn't look as good in a more defensive/holding role. It'll be interesting to see if Emery and co go for a beefier midfield but I do think he will look for a specialist DM to operate in his midfield whether he buys in or instructs one our existing players to.
Soo all the media have been saying Sokratis and Adli deals are done (days ago) yet there is still nothing on Arsenal.com Are they wrong? .. or have Arsenal's marketing dept all gone on holiday?
Interesting article about Torreira https://medium.com/@MoeSquare/lucas-torreira-the-maestro-within-sampdorias-system-435760011832
Hmm maybe. I like Lichensteiner and feel like Sokratis could be way better than most are assuming - he was the Captain of Dortmund after all. Adli looks great. I dont really care if we add any superstars we signed Aubamayeng in January. Would love Top GK and a quality DM. Then I think the squad will be in decent shape.
Exactly right. He's more of a maestro than a 'destroyer' like most Arsenal fans seem to think. Looks a decent Santi replacement.
Gelson Martins has apparently lodged an appeal to terminate his contract at Sporting. After several players were physically attacked by fans at the Clubs training ground Gelson Martins. William Carvalho and Bruno Fernanades are all looking to take legal action to terminate their contracts. The Club previously turned down a £30 million bid from Arsenal for the winger - as he has a £60m buy out clause. Martins is reportedly keen to make a move to the Gunners. The player therefore may be available on a free in the coming weeks.
Not that he would still have come to us or we could afford him but looks like Lemar's going to Atletico
Looks like Adli is off. No idea what's gone wrong there. On a brighter note, Torreira looks like it is getting done.
We've basically finalized 3 deals before the World Cup. Not bad going. 2 solid defenders and a decent semi-defensive midfielder. Good transfer window so far.
hes not, our 90m bid last year was the definition of a would-be panic buy. in hindsight, im happy it did not get done.
Looks like Torreira is happening https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44462975 We badly need to strengthen the defensive midfield so this is a very welcome move
