I'm old fashioned I know, but I get tired of more analysts being the solution to every problem. People who know football don't need a degree to twig what's going wrong at a Club.
It's all a bit beyond me. Proof of the pudding etc I suppose. When you look at the teams Cloughie built, there's no way an analytics team would have recommended the likes of Kenny Burns, John Robertson or John McGovern, and probably not an ageing Dave McKay either, but Clough and Taylor saw something there.
It would be a miracle if we get promoted this season considering the state of our squad. My personal hope is that we see the beginning of a genuine club policy to achieve success through our Academy products. If this happens it has been a mistake to let Pearce go, he's just the sort to guide youngsters coming into the squad. It's been a long time since we trusted our youngsters, but they've been outstanding the last 2 seasons, and we're only in L1 FFS. It may mean we don't sign as many players as some would like, but if this is to be Garner/TS's policy you have to leave room for them in the squad so they get a chance at some point., not just a couple of minutes in stoppage time (Kanu).
I understand about Pearce, but we couldn't let him force us to give him another playing contract. We wanted him to stay on as a coach, but were honest enough with him to tell him he can't cut it anymore as a player. If he then decides to leave in the hope that another Club will give him game time that's up to him.
