The Bolton defeat and performance effectively ends any promotion hopes this season. It's essential that our recruitment team get it right this time, and that means the manager having the final word on any deals. It's his neck that's on the line, not Martin Sandgaard's so let Jacko have a proper look at any player we sign same as Curbs and Sir Lennie did. No more experiments like Rocket Ronnie, or anyone who hasn't been playing because of injury.

    It's a real downer.
Promotion hopes over before most of our January signings have even got match-fit.
Three more points dropped and the automatic places are mathematically impossible.
Even to reach 6th place we would have to average over 2 points a game now.
And we haven't had a higher average than 1.34 ppg all season.

I don't think JJ will get his contract renewed.
And I can't think of four players I'd want to keep beyond May at this point.
Summer 2011 was a stroll compared to what we need now.

Jacko's contract renewal is based on success, but how do you define that? Finishing mid-table might not seem like a success, but we were second bottom when he took over, so if TS expected him to take a squad as poor as that to the play-offs then Jacko was on a loser right away. The squad was based on ADkins' style of play, overburdened with wingers, light on strikers. Jacko HAS to be given the chance to build his own squad, just as SCP was. I've not been critical of our owner, but I don't think it helps to have him and his son looking over your shoulder all the time, giving public opinions about the playing side. I'm feeling quite nervous about Charlton's future right now.

I'm only guessing, but the measure of 'success' may be as simple as league position.
Top half = success & a contract renewal
13th or lower = failure, and adios.
Thereafter, success might be measure by progress compared to the previous season.
One place higher than last season = success
    etc.

    Who knows.
It could be way more complicated than that.
But the above would be a formula for gradual progress.
Maybe back in the Championship before 2030.

I wonder, if fans had a choice of sticking with Jacko and waiting 5 years for promotion to the Championship, or letting him go and taking our chances with a newcomer, with no outcome known, which would they choose?

    Hypothetical question I know.
Nobody can guarantee a promotion 5 years ahead.
But part of me is fed up with chopping & changing gaffers.
And part of me is fed up with struggling in League One.

Southall's after Rochdale now. The fans are crowdfunding for legal fees to stop him.

I'm actually not overly concerned about the current situation. I'd already written off the play offs before we lost to Bolton. TS said when he took over it would be a long recovery from the damage done to the club, so if you take away his rather bizarre tweet about tearing up the league, we are signing players (Fraser, Stockley, Aneke) who can do a job for us next season. I'd have loved to see us go roaring up this season, but we're not there yet, and despite some noises from within the club, we'll be needing a change of personel, and we've all got a few names we'd like to see moving to other clubs.
The major problem is the fact that thanks to ESI we no longer own the ground, and rent it from our previous and wretched owner. That is going to be an ongoing concern but while we have steady ownership, it shouldn't be an issue. I will add that while some fans seem to think we should be bringing more youngsters into the team for the rest of the season, a quick look at how recent Chelsea signing Burstow was made to look anonymous at Bolton should put that straight. We can begin to blood one or two, but not lots and not every game.

Cawley is reporting that Jacko is unable to start planning for next season because he doesn't know if he'll still be at the club. Shurely shome mishtake? Jacko's record would put us 4th in the table if he'd been here from the start, and that's with Adkins' unbalanced squad.

Is Johnnie Jackson's record as Charlton manager (presumably including the 'caretaker' games) really the 4th best record in League One?

    That does surprise me.

Well that should set us up nicely for the summer. I'd say we are 90% certain to be in league 1, so we can take advantage and plan on that basis.
Or do what we did last summer. Which didn't work out very well.

Some clubs will be having a jumble sale this summer, selling off their bric-a-brac.

We will hopefully be having a tip run

looking at the staff he's appointed.. i think we'll be shopping in lidl -

    1. His son. Had a trial at Enfield Town
    2. Skiverton - non league
    3. Ron Dangerfield - non league
    4. De Souza - sacked by Colchester

very worrying. wonder if Jacko knew about half of these

Probably knew about Skiverton, not sure about the others. Jacko said recently there's an air of positivity about the place now, it hasn't reached the fans yet. My motto is Expect nothing and you won't be disappointed.
