We all would love to see a majority of the squad leave in the Summer, but is it realistic? Also, what will it cost? Here's what McDermott faces wit contract expiry dates: 2013: Leigh Bromby, Davide Somma, Habib Habibou (loan), Patrick Kisnorbo, Paul Rachubka, Paul Connolly, Alex Cairns. 2014: Michael Brown, Luke Varney, Adam Drury, Paul Green, El-Hadji Diouf, Jamie Ashdown, Danny Pugh, Charlie Taylor. 2015: David Norris, Rodolph Austin, Lee Peltier, Paddy Kenny,
Stephen Warnock, Aidan White, Michael Tonge,
Ryan Hall, Chris Dawson, Dominic Poleon, Ross McCormack, Zac Thompson. 2016: Jason Pearce, Tom Lees, Steve Morison, Sam Byram. Oh dear, looks a bit tough. Players to keep for me would be Byram (or mega million sale), Lees, Dawson, McCormack, Ashdown, Taylor, Austin, Kenny, Warnock, White, Tonge, Poleon, Pearce, Morison. Not convinced about the rest, but then again maybe Colin had simply run out of ideas and failed to get the best out of his players. Time will tell.
Does the YEP know you are ripping off their copy? IMO you should probably have referenced your source.
I'd keep Green and Peltier too. Peltier should not be a starter and definitely not at LB, but he's looked competent at CB and we'll need cover for RB regardless of whether Byram stays or goes. And on the note of RB cover, I'd keep Thompson. I thought he looked okay there for us when he played, and he's been pretty good in a terrible Bury side.
Zac Thompson is bound to be confused he was signed from Everton where he was right back then trained to play centre mid once he arrived then chuck him in against reading at right back strange decisions for the young ens at lufc lol Peltier is a right back if we sell byram not ideal but would give b mac a good chunk of money then pelts would be good enough n then we can go out n get a very good commanding centre back and captain
We've got Jason Pearce until 2016??? Bloody hell, murderers have recieved shorter sentences! Maybe Warnock will take Brown, Kenny, Varney etc to Bramall Lane with him?
Brendan, this is not a newspaper, and I'm just putting info on here to have a decent discussion about what McDermott faces as he tries to build a winning club. Gosh, some people can be so fcuking negative!! Back to topic - Green is okay but too inconsistent, same with Norris, but McDermott may just revive a few of the "no hopers" which he will probably need to do to improve us next season. Thompson needs another six months at least on loan to prove his temperament is right. Peltier? I fear he is going to become an injury prone liability, also lacks pace to play RB. Looks unlikely Colin will grt a job at Blunts, so no hope of Varney and the gang going there, but you never know.
I think Green/Byram down the right has always looked a good partnership. The problem is he doesn't offer us natural width when we need to open the game up, and isn't particularly quick. In an away match, playing 4-4-2, I'd be tempted to play Green to help cover Byram when he goes forward. At home though, we need to open the game up more and make the pitch bigger - but we don't have any proper wingers for it
Steve, exactly right, which makes his job harder with a majority of the donkeys staying beyond the end of this season. Bottom line is that GFH need to invest, and not just one or two million but heavily. It is clear we are at least eight quality players short, and that means money money money. The thing is, Leeds will be a quality investment when they get to the Prem, and GFH needs to make that happen next season.
I think McDermott will be aiming to build a side long term rather than short term, so getting rid of the dead wood might not be as big an issue as you might think.
I really don't believe McDermott wil be looking to make a huge amount of signings. But hopefully the ones he does make are complete quality
Well with a win on the board I think he'll be playing some of the younger players for the rest of the season. I hope so anyway.
