I have sniffed out some news which has not gone down well with this old hound, if even remotely true.
ST holders will recall our chairman extolling us a couple of months ago to renew, that there would be "significant" (his words I think) investment in the summer.
Information garnered by a little arse sniffing leads me to believe this is not going to happen.
In fact, our playing budget is allegedly going to be LOWER than this season.
That will allegedly be paying to keep those wanted, but cutting right back on those not.
The fact that the current lot couldnt get within a sniff of the P/O, let alone promotion, leads this hound to believe the chairmans definition of investment differs somewhat with us fans.
    Hope this is erroneous info.

Nothing would surprise me H... I must say that i am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. Afterall, they put their money where their mouth is when they signed league one's top scorer for us.

I'm pleased there's going to be a mass clear out cos we've got more than our fair share of rubbish in the squad.

In the current climate with so many footballers out of contract there's deffo some bargains to be had... Luckily... <laugh>

I think you need to take a gander at the above link from New York Addick.

In addition the rumours about having less money for the budget http://www.charlton.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=241643 and http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/24301/rumours-rumours/p52

I do not trust the motives of the new owners. Trust is earned, I say and I am pretty skeptical of the fine prose of slater and and apart from sound bites, all I see is an attempt of swish marketing, replacement of the screen and the replacement of a manager who could manage on a budget to a rookie, who it is not clear is going to manage (as much as I want him to succeed).

Not happy with the goings on and the turn things are taking.

Beginning to feel like loans and freebies again - which has taken us nearer L2 than the championship <doh>

I'm as sceptical as you mate but I'm trying to remain positive until given reason to be otherwise.

I'm encouraged by their willingness to sign the leagues top scorer when the opportunity presented itself. They also made it clear that no panic buys would be made during the window and that the bulk of the squad strengthening would take place during the close season.

Fingers crossed they're as good as their word.

Oh absolutely H... Is that not the mantra for us life long Charlton fans... "expect nothing but hope for something".

Is it that surprising? We have some players on wages that stem back to our first season in the Championship, I.E parachute payment money. An example I used on 606 was:

Youga is on a reported 6-8k. Lowering that to possibly signing Steve Howard on a free for 3k a week, then Bessone for 2-3k a week on a possible free will result in a lower budget but getting a better value for money deal.

The club is still losing money, but we have slightly richer backers. Can't blame them for wanting to tighten the purse strings, but still being able to create a competitive squad. It is doable.

Where did you hear about Steve Howard Super...?

I hope that one's a goer cos he's just the type of forward we need to give us extra attacking options.

He's a big old lump aint he Dick?

He's another like Kevin Phillips who made the move into league football from being pretty much unheard of.
