The hoo doo returns, ironically they score from a classic Forest style counter attack from the 70's Anything but a defeat would have been fine, FFS....
Gutted that we lost. But at least we didn't lose 3-0. Past seasons have shown that when we concede one we then fall to pieces, they at least never gave up and pushed forward until the final minute. Think the goal came just as we were arranging ourselves from the sub. Thought they sounded like they deserved at least a point.
I do question dels selection and tactics today Why play Carey when Wilson is clearly the better option now Why play foster at RM when there are better options, woolford shouldn't be in the team all together and brining pitman on when were loosing with 60 seconds on the clock? It doesn't make sense to me! I trust you del but ffs pick our best team
After a decade or so when we never lost our opening game of the season that's 3 on the spin Am I surprised we lost at Forest ? No not really. I objected strongly to previous seasons and managers who failed to bring in new faces and get them settled before the off. Millen was a total twat as a manager, DM is a vast improvement but how hamstrung is he being made by the owner/board in not being able to bring in enough talent ? SL will die a multi multi multi millionaire of that there's no doubt, but if he knocks on the pearly gates with the resources at his disposal and realises he could have done a lot more then that'll be a shame. No real shock results in the Championship today, except maybe Barnsley beating Boro, and that's the benchmark we need to live up to, or better. Like us they are fancied for the drop Very early days of course, but not a bright opening. Played 2 lost 2 For 1 Against 3
Where would we be without Steve Lansdown? I wonder how many of us would give our money to managers who throw it away on players like Nicky Hunt, just be thankfull he still supports the cause.
A very good question but it would also depend on who owned the club if Lansdown didnt and whether we'd be in the Conference or the Premier League. We'll never know. With his massive fortune (which gets bigger by the year by the way) I just think he could spend more on the club or sell it to someone who REALLY wants to invest. I'm frankly fed up with other teams doing their transfer business as soon as the previous season finishes and then having the luxury of a settled squad through all of the pre season games in order to hit the ground running on day 1 of the league season. We just don't do that and year in year out it shows.
Carey should be first on the team sheet unless injured. Wilson is better suited to full back. Back four was solid. Impotent going forward. No train crash yet.
You should read the rules of FFP. There is a ceiling owners can inject v income. Steve Lansdown cannot flood millions into the club even on an altruistic basis evn if he wished to. The clubs last financial report virtually stated BCFC are bankrupt. That is no way to run a football club. People will not invest in BCFC because there is going to be no return, there is no profit to be made on a business that is profitless. Prudence shouild be part of BCFC, you are asking the club to run like Pompey otherwise. Interestingly FFP will put Bristol City FC operating in a similar manner to that of the club before Steve Lansdown took over control with the club being run at an even keel financially.
Investment is far more than loading us with a bunch of players on high wages. It can be argued that Lansdown has done a lot for us already, but made the wrong move in trying to move us to a new stadium as it's still burning a hole in his pocket for little to no return. So far, McInnes has been the best investment the club has made in a long time. We have a young manager with a lot to prove and lots of potential. However, there are still many things the club could invest in that would improve the club, namely: The South West's equivalent to La Masia. For most Football League teams academies are huge money sinks, but if we were to up our game and build a brand new academy similarly to the one being built by Man City we'll secure our position in football for many years. Ditch the crappy Football League websites and get one built locally. Outside of London, Bristol has the best agencies in the country and again by following the model being set by Man City the club will both gain recognition and will interact better with its fans. Lansdown should know this, because Hargreaves Lansdown hires Web Developers heavily from the local area. If we're going to build this bloody stadium then the club needs to be more vocal about what's going on and the key dates for any decisions. Until it's resolved, for better or worse, it will always be a dark cloud above the club and no success on the pitch is going to get rid of it. An academy would cost a fair amount of money, but would repay itself over time. The rest is still chump change for a club the size of Bristol City and would do a lot more to change the perception of this club.
