All this talk of Ramirez being great vs. Chelsea and Hernandez looking...well better then usual, got me thinking about the whole warm weather player theory, especially those from tropical climates. Do the cold winter months affect players to the point were they under perform? Do players from Latin America really struggle or is it all a myth?
oH,clarification alert, time will tell. as It's the start of spring and with warmer matchdays before Us in the next 8 games, It will make a fine point to see if performances Improve & and as such Will It be because of warmer weather that warms the blood and Invites Invigoration.
Ian Goodison has played 494 games in English football, if he's been trying to avoid games, he's not been doing a very good job of it.
I remember reading that when we sign Hernadez the area in Uruguay where he played was quite cold during the playing season. If that was the case then he should be used to it.
Well you are probably right to a point, but according to wikipedia is say the following Seasons are fairly well defined, and in most of Uruguay spring is usually damp, cool, and windy; summers are warm; autumns are mild; and winters are chilly and uncomfortably damp. Even though UK is probably colder, it is not such a big difference for him, unlike the Africa players who are usued to hot weather all the year round.
The coldest month is July, where the temperature varies between lows of 6 and highs of 14 degrees, which is the same average as the UK in May, it really doesn't get cold at all.
Complete and utter bollocks, he played much better against Everton at home on New Years day, Ramirez won us the game against Sunderland pretty much and that was on the 26th December.
I think it's more to do with players who are new to the English leagues who aren't used to having to play over Christmas rather than being fair weather players. Guys this year like Sanchez and Di Maria who were great until Christmas but have been jenk since, i don't think it's the cold, I think it's not having that 4-5 weeks off over Christmas, takes players a season or two to adjust to it
goodison, as already mentioned, had a long career, playing till his forties, and never let his standards drop. not a fairweather player.
