Watching any video of the game from the '60s and '70s will tell you that the game has changed dramatically over the last 40 to 50 years. Mostly for the better, but not in all aspects.

Today a manager can make three subs from a bench of many. Back then a manager could make only the one sub from a bench of one; players had to be more versatile and switching positions was a routine part of the game. This season, the games against Chelsea and Wolves in particular, but in others as well, we have seen substitutions not work out the way intended or negatives happen as an unintended consequence. We've had Kemy swear publicly that he'd never play right back again (hate to say it but that is almost Tevez like in its insolence). On this board, comments have been made about a possible BR achilles heal.

So what do you think, between back then and now, is it easier or harder to execute that part of the game - selecting the bench and making substitutions.

firstly easier, secondly i would say BR is struggling with makeup of his bench, always has lita and moore - why? he only plays one up front. i could rant for ages but this is a start

Moore can play out wide. Sometimes.
