Throughout our 13 Premiership years it was as if Fulham Football Club didn't exist so far as the London Evening Standard was concerned. Apart from a couple of weeks during the European trail when someone ghost wrote a 'Dickson Etuhu Column'. And following a drop into the Championship? Forget it ! Whoa up .. today they decided to roll out for the "Final Friendly" and sent ace reporter James Benge to the Cottage. Unfortunately poor old James mustn't have had proper accreditation for a seat in the press box, with the complimentary team sheet. Either that or he just made it up from what he gleaned on social media for according to James our second goal was scored by that famous moral philospher and pioneer of political economy .. Adam Smith. And for what it's worth here is a link to his opus: http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...mpionship-side-claim-victory-in-a3308281.html
Perhaps he was there because of the opposition, what with Palace being another London club. We were probably coincidental for the Standard. I don't know how much he got paid for the write-up, but it probably doesn't amount to the Wealth of Nations.
Just by contrast. Stefano Hatfield writing an article in the i newspaper about the Rio Olympics, and because the start date coincides with our opening game on Friday, has taken the opportunity to slip in a Fulham mention; ".. brings the fallen so-called giants of Newcastle United to the wonderfully endearing anachronism that is Craven Cottage, home to my local team, Fulham FC."
